Today we made 3 new experiments.

  1. Separating salt from flour in water.

These are the instructions

20180611_130404.jpg

we dissolved some cooking salt in a glass of water.

20180610_192505.jpg

we added a pinch of flour in

20180610_192607.jpg

20180610_192706.jpg

and mixed well with a stirrer

20180610_192748.jpg

we prepared a filtering paper

20180610_195133.jpg

and poured the liquid in

20180610_195217.jpg

you will notice that water with the salt have passed from the filtering paper

While the flour was on the filtering paper.

2 Separating icing sugar from flour in water.

These are the instructions

20180610_194150.jpg

we poured some flour in some water

we added a pinch of icing sugar

and we mixed well with a stirrer

3 How to discover the colors that consist each ink.

These are the instructions

20180611_144644.jpg

we took a ball pen and some markers of various colors: black, brown, green and purple.

we cut a piece of filtering paper that had the right size to fit vertically in a medium size glass

20180610_201249.jpg

we painted many color dots with the pens and the markers a bit higher than the lower edge of the filtering paper.

20180610_201415.jpg

we placed a strip of the paper along a toothpick and we made sure it was firmly fixed.

The marked dots must be at the bottom and the paper should be stable in the glass.

20180610_201548.jpg

we placed a small amount of water in the glass using the dropper.

20180610_201716.jpg

The water had to reach just the edge of the paper and not the color dots.

After a while, you will notice that the water is moving upwards along the paper and transfers the colors of the mix in different lengths and will separate the colors of the ink.

it is a very effective way of separating different substances in a mixture. A liquid, water for example, can transfer the components of a mixture along a strip of paper

Τhe last experiment was our favorite. Really it impressed us (me and my son)very much!

Have a nice day to all.

This is chemistry made easy! what is not chemistry!? everything is chemistry!... I should try these out too some day

you are right my friend and it has fun! :)

Yeah sure, full of fun!
