Narkoba bukanlah sesuatu yang asing lagi bagi kita. Kita telah sering mendengar dan membaca berita tentang narkoba di media elektronik maupun media cetak. Di Indonesia, peredaran obat terlarang ini sudah menjadi alah satu permasalahan utama yang harus segera diatasi.
Meluasnya narkoba di Indonesia terutama di kalangan generasi muda karena didukung oleh faktor budaya global. Budaya global dikuasai oleh budaya Barat (baca Amerika Serikat) yang mengembangkan pengaruhnya melalui layar TV, VCD, dan film-film. Ciri utama budaya tersebut amat mudah ditiru dan diadopsi oleh generasi muda karena sesuai dengan kebutuhan dan selera muda.
Pada tahun 2010, prevalensi penyalahgunaan narkoba meningkat menjadi 2,21 persen atau sekitar 4,02 juta orang.
Sementara, pada 2017, BNN mencatat angka prevalensi penyalahgunaan narkotika sebesar 1,77 persen atau setara 3.376.115 orang pada rentang usia 10-59 tahun.
- data BNN pada 2018, prevalensi angka penyalahgunaan narkoba di kalangan pelajar di 13 ibu kota provinsi di Indonesia mencapai angkta 3,2 persen atau setara dengan 2,29 juta orang.
Penyalahgunaan narkotika meningkat dengan menggunakan teknologi internet untuk perdagangan gelap narkotika. Nilai transaksi maupun jenis yang diperdagangkan juga meningkat.
