Head lice- those nasty little buggers!

in #family6 years ago (edited)

Head lice..... Every parent's worst nightmare. The bigger the family the harder and more time-consuming the task. You guessed it! this is my task as we speak. Let me show you how we beat the bastards!

Those pesky little creatures are getting clever and many are resistant to lice treatments, and who wants to put poison toxins that irritate the scalp on their child's head?

It's been confirmed four out of 5 children have them and no doubt my hubby and I have joined the fiesta too! I have 4 days off work before I begin teaching Summer school. What an amazing way to spend my time.....NOT!

I have researched and now tried and tested an old home remedy to rid our family of these tiny disgusting creatures.

So what are we using?

Apple cider vinegar has been a game changer. Using a spray bottle, saturate hair from root to tip and leave in a shower cap overnight. The vinegar dissolves the 'glue' that helps the eggs attach the hair.

In the morning cold rise hair and smoother in coconut oil or olive oil. This will smother and kill the remaining lice and make combing more comfortable for your child.

Comb, comb, and comb using a fine tooth comb over a white cloth making sure to section off hair into small sections to ensure you are combing thoroughly through each section of hair.

Wash and condition using regular products and repeat combing process.

Repeat all steps after 7 days to be safe. This technique has worked wonders for my family and after next weeks follow up process I hope we will not be needing it again in a long time.

I hope if you are unlucky like us and those sneaky little critters take over your families heads you find this post helpful.

Lice were a nightmare for us. My girl had waist-length, fine, curly hair. The lice comb would just glide right past the stick eggs and get caught in her curls. I think it was and unstick and smother method that finally got rid of them.

They drove us all a little crazy because it was so hard to get rid of and it took so long. We were never sure that they were really gone.

They say a louse or two is a sign of a healthy head 😂😂.

I have fine curly hair and thick curly hair in my household... lot of work.

I think that once you get them the paranoia remains for longer than the lice. Just thinking about them I am scratching them again lol. Waist length curly hair would most certainly be a challenge. May they never return EVER!!

awwtss.. this is a big problem alright! I did not encounter any here in the UAE, but this one is a pesky fight in the Philippines especially during summer. But I see lice shampoos here so there might be cases too.

Great idea about the apple cider vinegar.. and glad it works! <3

In Cambodia you will see locals picking them out of each other's hair on the side of the road or while sitting waiting for customers at their stall...gross!!!
Lice - Connecting grossness from one head to another lol!

I've heard of using tea tree essential oil as a natural remedy, but never apple cider vinegar! I'll certainly be pocketing this idea for if/when we find ourselves under attack (shudder!) Thanks for the idea!

I used to use tea tree spray in their hair as a deterrent and it worked wonders. I shouldn't have stopped!

Gross. When my kid got infected I protected myself by slathering my head with coconut oil. It worked... phew.

The first thing I did was slather her head with olive oil - that drowned lots of the little buggers and slowed them down enough to avoid spreading.

Then used a “technique” called cetaphil treatment. It’s kinda cool/gross/cruel and effective.

Good luck mama. I’m sending you lots of patience.

If I have no coconut oil I use olive oil :) thanks for the patience....i need it!

Oh no, I really pray that I never have to experience this!! I heard that it is really tough to get rid of them! Hope you get them all out asap! Plus it is really uncomfortable too right? Itchy...
