Looking at my Daughter’s Own Collection... We Have so Much in Common!steemCreated with Sketch.

Earlier this week I was checking out my daughter’s room as we had just made changes to accommodate her first computer that she needed for school. I was amazed to see the LOL doll collection she has amassed over the last year or two. Most of them have come from her good deeds and achievements but I have also almost always gotten her one everytime I would travel for business. Every time I buy one of these, I am amazed on the business model these companies have put together as they are certainly not cheap. This is not the first time she has started collecting these “blind bag” sort of items but it is the one that has engaged her the most.

Anyhow, it reminded me of how I have also have always had this collectionist mentality. I used to collect comic books and baseball cards as a kid and I would always learn the release dates to get a better chance at collecting them. However, over time I lost interest due to the broadening of many of these collectibles as I realized how I was just making money to the sellers. I never regretted buying them as I think most of the memories I have of my father are those when we spent a day going to conventions to add to our collections. I still have all of these collectibles to this day (makes my wife very unhappy given the storage requirements).

Over the years, I think this passion has died down given how many things are now digitalized. I have seen how now comic books and even trading cards are digitalized for consumption. Can you really collect these? That all has changed again since I got convinced to get some Steem Monsters. It is now as addicting and fun as when I was a kid. To think that it combines two passions I now have with collecting and #STEEM is great to experience. I guess I now remember that my daughter got it from me and I have continued the tradition with my Steem Monsters collection. While I am still trying to complete my collection, I am enjoying the ride as the community continues to build up to the battle coming very soon!

The important thing is that we enjoy what we do as we work hard for what we have! I take pride of my collections as they are filled with memories that cannot be replaced. Have you ever collected anything? Do you still have them? Have you tried Steem Monsters? I look forward to your thoughts and comments!

Interesting thoughts but makes sense that she likes collecting as you help her by buying them... Great experience she will sure always remember!

I too have great memories collecting ‘footy cards’ and Tazos, if you remember those haha!

When it comes to the digitisation of assets, blockchain tech is key to making sure they can’t be duplicated again and again. This is the key to digital collectables and why Steem Monsters for example, feels the same as when we used to collect our own physical cards.

I love it, great read :)

It seems like a logically evolution of collecting whichbis great for the digital age we are experiencing right now. Will be great to see where it goes!

As a child, I used to collect the cards that came in the WeetBix packets here in New Zealand. Back in those days nobody had thought to make playable card games out of them, they were just fancy pieces of cardboard with nice pictures on them and sometimes some relevant factual information about the image, somewhat like a small postcard. And yes, I'm pretty sure that some enterprising person had made cheap knock-off copies of them. These days however, with the blockchain-based cards like #SteemMonsters, which are unique and verifiable, collecting takes on a whole new meaning. I look forward to when we can start battling with our cards too!

Wow, interesting! I am sure that we are in for a great experience since we are already engaged in the Steem ecosystem. Will be great to see how this grows.

Cool stuff, sounds like you are really getting engaged with Steem Monster. I use to collect basketball cards, I have a Scottie Pippen, Tim Hardaway, I believe Michael Jordan's 3rd year and a bunch of sets. Still in my basement which I plan to give to my kids.

Sounds like a great collection for the next generation! I am not sure my daughter will every appreciate these old cards and comics I have but one day I will sit and show her...
