How do you handle your kids when they've been very naughty?

Children can try the patience of a saint sometimes. They could be so naughty that all you want to do is give them a good spanking. Imagine a situation where you left your phone charging while you ironed your work clothes, only to enter your child's room minutes later to see your newly purchased non-water proof Samsung phone in a jug of lemonade! The first instinct is to yell and give the child a butt whooping isn't it? Lol! It isn't at all easy to be a parent. In fact, it is the greatest process for learning patience and long-suffering or resignation...hehehehe.

What I do in such situations is to withdraw from the scene of annoyance and take several calming breathes. I also give myself a quick pep talk about what the worst consequence of the misdeed could be. Once I am able to control myself to avoid reacting purely out of anger, I would then summon the child and give her a serious talk about the non-acceptability of such behavior. Once this is understood, I would mete out a punishment making sure she understands that it is the consequence of bad behavior i.e withdrawal of play time privileges for a day or two. This is a better behavior modification method than beating up the child.

Although children do deserve to be spanked once in a while, it is safer to avoid it as there is a very thing line between using it as a corrective measure and become physically abusive to your child. You might just find that you crossed the line from being a good parent to an abusive one if care is not taken. Patience and self control are the major keys to avoid victimizing your children.
