We Lost Luckie

It was Rene's birthday month when we found her, a few months after we lost our dear dog (which we never found) Jackie after we moved over to the urban city of the heart of the capital of Malaysia; Kuala Lumpur.

She was a pup, bullied by the stray pack near our house. We never saw her mom rescuing her, and she was crying in the drain.

Rene found her, picked her up, washed her clean, and she was with us thick and thin, moving back to the village where the old house was, fighting off cobras, monitor lizards, occasionally scared us when she climbed out to venture out in the little village we stayed and almost couldn't find her way home until our relatives spotted her.

She went through a lot of pain, we even fed her paracetamol, and we cured her miraculously; she went through flu for the first time 2 years back, and ever since, she was getting old.

Until the night before, she suddenly became very active and angry and barking out in the dark.

We let her go venture off our big compound, and we totally forgotten about it, we called for her 3 hours later and she was happily wagging her tail and came back to us. Greeting us good night.

Yesterday early morning when we woke up, she was gone; the weather was exceptionally cold, lying beside our doorstep, besides her usual "shack", not moving, mouth and neck were totally blacken.

Her body was still soft when we found her in the morning, but she was gone.

She loved our home. We were struggling to think if we move in with our daughter who's place is a small unit apartment where dogs are not allowed, where will we put her.

I told my daughter we were going to send her to SPCA (dog pound), but she refused because Luckie was already at ripe 10 year old, and her hind feet were already wobbly. They will just put her down.

Maybe this is God's way of being merciful. Gave her one final battle. Whenever she barks like that usually there's a snake around; and she never lost to a snake before, cobra or not.

But this time God maybe said, "time's up. You come with Me."

We will always miss her. We couldn't even look at her shack by the door this morning, but we know where her resting place now. At the back yard where her favourite place was, smelling for herbs and checking out snails.
