In our time of need

"In my time of need" is a song by one of my favorite bands: Opeth, and it's hard for everyone when bad times knock the door. My family and I survived in a "devastated by corruption" country all 2018 thanks to steemit and since the sbd and steem got stuck in low prices all I could think was to leave Venezuela and go to another country trying to get a better life for me and them, but things just got harder. I was saving money for the departure and those plans included the whole three member family going out of the country, but both economies in steemit and in my country crashed so badly that the savings weren't enough, the price of food in the country skyrocket and I had to spent savings and sell some recording gear to stand and face the crysis. It's hard to keep smiling when times are hard and you must be harder to keep your family safe.

I didn't put my son in school because in all schools there's a brainwash going on for a long time about socialism and hate, but also the education levels of the teachers limits to just take care of the children in the classroom for some hours, learning close to nothing and having more orthographic errors than the children. My son learns more at home than he does in school. I know there are great teachers out there against that system and with real passion for what they do and how and what they teach to children. So we decided to skip school in order to plan our exit faster. Our first plan failed by economic issues and by december 2018 we were in a really bad situation.

I decided to change plans and leave the country alone, to the country next to ours: Colombia . In there my cousin told me I could arrive and try my audiovisual "stuff", see other options and grow. So I did. As many venezuelans that are leaving the country since years ago, it was my turn to left my family in the disaster of hunger and misery that became Venezuela. The most hard thing I've done in my life is leaving my son asleep, kissing him good bye, taking my bags and starting a three day trip. My son Kevin is 7 and if I woke him up to say good bye he won't let me leave and also my heart will be broken in several pieces, so I talk to him days before that I was leaving.

Once in Medellín, Colombia I started showing my work and trying to make small jobs but it's hard, you know, no one wants an unknown photographer or videographer and even less with a crazy face like mine. I printed some business cards and started spreading the word so a few bands, bars and music artist showed interests, but no one hired me yet for anything. At this point, everything is getting harder as the steem and sbd savings I brought got finished today.

I came with the illusion of surviving with photography, video and music making, but once here, I realized that it takes time to get recognized and the illusion of making money fast vanished slowly but firmly. But the audiovisual plans are long term now, I have to work something else in order to rent a place of my own and bring my wife and son, and here's when some friends appeared with a great idea to start our own business.

Luis and Aiskel are two old friends who want to make videos of different types and monetize them through different systems and they also want to leave Venezuela, so I'm telling them how good is this city and they decided to make the huge step of going out as soon as posible and come here. I asked them to help me bringing my wife and son with them in order to become their full time video producer, as also we are going to share the place we rent to reduce cost at first until we stabilize. But our ideas to make content go far beyond and it's something we never did in Venezuela because of the crime or economy and here it's possible to make all of the most crazy ideas we can have.

It's a terrible time for venezuelans, that's clear right know in the whole world, but there's a lot of working people and a lot of creative people that make great things, things that help others without caring about who they are or what have they done. In my case, I worked for nine years as a paramedic in Caracas, so I know what I'm talking about, I lost count of how many lives I saved and how many people I helped and that's one of the best feeling one could have in life, seeing the face of someone in an emergency situation being rescued is something that just a few people experience.

It's true that something is happening in Venezuela that could lead to a better panorama, but meanwhile that happens, the prices are getting worse and worse and the possibilities to starve are higher than ever. I'm desperate, selling my music instruments that I left there but there's no one interested in buy those things in there.

I feel bad for what we are living as venezuelans and I know that there's people in worse situations than my family and I, but in there food is getting shortage and I don't have the inmediate possibility to send money, so in order to turn our plans a reality I'm asking the steemit community to help us, donating whatever you want to help us do these things:

  • Buy 4 bus tickets for two (our friends are going to pay theirs). There's a bus that goes from Venezuela to the border and from the border another one to Medellín.
  • Buy some food for their travel.
  • Buy 2 bus tickets for me to go to the border and back to wait for them; my son doesn't have the permission to exit the country with just one parent and making any paperwork in there could take months.
  • Help others who are travelling with little or without money or food. When I came, there was a lot of people travelling with very little and with hungry children, so sharing can help others in similar conditions. It's a three day travel in bus.

I think that's all we need to reunite as a family and start our entrepreneurship with the help of our friends Luis, Aiskel and their son Matt, starting over in this beautiful country and kind people and if you help us all you'll have a great place in our hearts and I'll figure out how to make a tribute for all of you.
