source
Hellodear steemians @oghie here.
Coxsackievirus is a deadly virus that belongs to the non-enveloped family, such as the Picornaviridae and the Enterovirus genus. Another important human pathogens are the Enteroviruses, thtis particular pathogen are transmitted by the fecal oral-route. This virus are among the leading causes of the Aseptic meningitis.
History of coxsackievirus
In 1948-1949, Dr. Gilbert Dalldorfm, He was a scientist working at the the New York State department of health (NYSDH) in Albany.
Coxsackievirus can be seen in children between the age of 5-6, it's like a small icosahedral particle likely to be seen in the face, foot, hand and mouth. Fever, rashes and sore blister are likely to be the symptoms of this virus,. The coxsackievirus which is mainly found in children last for about 7 days (approximately a week) and after that it disappears into thin air. This virus can be seen generally in 90% in Asian countries,.
If this virus is not treated appropriately, it could lead to conjunctives, myocardits, pericarditis. Adults are also affected by this virus as well, as a matter of fact this virus is all around the world, most especially during warmer season. In Taiwan about 1.5million people have been a victim of this virus and only 98 children died from it. China on the other hand had about 1844 cases and 35 died from it.

Transmission
This virus can be transmitted from an infected person to another through saliva, feces or contaminated water. Children below 6-6 are mostly victims of this infection, this is because their immune system is not fully equipped to tackle such infection.
Symptoms
The coxsackievirus can be mostly seen on the hand, foot, mouth, and in the tongue. They also cause fever, sore throat and poor appetite. The mouth also experience painful sores which scientists call (herpangina). The ones that appear in the hand are rashes under the soles of the feet, in some cases they can be seen on the knees, buttocks and elbows. Children develop poor hydration as a result of difficulty in swallowing . As stated earlier, serious cases can lead to icosahedra or myocarditis, when this happens it becomes difficult for this infection to clear up in a week, most times it takes weeks or even months before they disappear.
Treatment
Since this infection are self-limiting, they tend to disappear within 7 days (a week approximately) without any treatment. But in the case of the icosahedra and myocarditis, physicians will prescribe symptomatic treatments for the victims that are infected. Some of the prescriptions maybe;
- Lidocain oral gel
- benzydamine spray
- mouthwash
- mouthwash
For dehydration; physicians prescribed victims should consume adequate intake of fluid, fluids containing acyclovir and herpes simplex.
Prevention
This infection is quite contagious and can be prevented in other words. one of the vital prevention is a proper hygiene must be practiced effectively. This can be done by washing your hands after toilet thoroughly, before preparing of food and after changing of diapers. In school children should be taught about proper hygiene and washing of hands to prevent this virus.
