Canada appeals compensation ruling that found it 'willfully and recklessly' discriminated against First Nations children.
Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government is seeking a judicial review of a ruling that ordered Canada to pay $40,000 to First Nations children who were taken from their homes on-reserve and put in care dating back to 2006.
The application was filed in Federal Court Friday.
The Canadian Human Rights Tribunal found Canada guilty of willfully underfunding on-reserve child welfare and ordered each child be paid $40,000, a settlement that could amount to billions of dollars. Parents or guardians could also be eligible for payments.
What makes this really, really awful is the fact that on Monday, a list memorial was unveiled with the names of 2800 indigenous youth who died in residential schools.
What makes it worse: OUR CHILDREN ARE STILL DYING IN CARE.

The sad thing about this is those complicit in the crimes aren't paying. The citizens will be paying for these schemes foisted upon them. Shame they can't hold those directly responsible (politicians, lobby groups and others who profited legally and illegally) for these schemes to pay these reparations that will never undo the scars left on the victims.
