Every day I will publish a fruit, vegetable or vegetable, highlighting its properties and benefits for health and beauty. In this way we will know more about the natural benefits that we can count on daily if we know more about the fruits, vegetables that we consume or that we see in the market and that we have not yet tested. In today's delivery I will talk about ...

Cherries are produced from the Prunus avium tree. The plant belongs to the Rosaceae family and we all know it with the name of cherry. The cherry plant has been present in the Mediterranean area for about 3,000 years. The first news about it comes from Egypt. It is difficult to establish with certainty the country of origin, even if one thinks that the cherry tree is very likely to come from Asia.

Diuretic and Depurative:

The fresh cherry purifies and detoxifies. It is also diuretic and mildly laxative. These properties make the cherry a very useful fruit in case of swelling in the abdomen.

Hepatic activation:

Thanks to the presence of malic acid, a substance that stimulates liver activity, it is able to promote the digestion of sugars and liver activity. Purifies, drains and detoxifies.

Lower cholesterol:

The consumption of cherries brings great benefits to the heart and the circulatory system in general. It has been confirmed that its consumption would reduce considerably the percentage of cholesterol in our body thanks to the presence of antioxidants.

Rich in antioxidants:

It is a fruit rich in pigments called anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are flavonoid polyphenolic compounds concentrated in the skin that have a strong antioxidant power.

Free radicals:

The presence of antioxidants is able to counteract the activity of free radicals. In this way the risk of developing diseases related to the heart is reduced. To improve this quality of cherries there are also other polyphenolic flavonoid compounds with antioxidant activity: lutein, zeaxanthin and beta-carotene. These compounds act as scavengers of free radicals. They also play a fundamental role in the prevention of certain types of cancer and slow down cell aging.

Tumors:

Cherries contain a variety of phytochemical compounds that contribute to their antioxidant activity. The red color of the fruit is due to the presence of anthocyanins which are pigments with powerful antioxidant properties. In addition to anthocyanins, hydroxycinnamic acid and perilyl alcohol are also compounds with high antioxidant activity. In some cases, anthocyanins even cause death by apoptosis of cancer cells. Peryl alcohol appears to make cancer agents harmless.

Infections:

The antioxidant compounds in cherries also have other useful properties for health. Vitamin C, carotenoids and flavonoids can stimulate the immune system. Its consumption protects us from bacterial, viral and fungal infections. In particular, the areas that are most protected are the colon, the urinary tract and the intestine.

Digestion and constipation:

While dietary fiber helps prevent constipation, the acids contained in cherries promote digestion. Flavonoids stimulate the secretion of gastric juices and bile. Vitamins, however, allow adequate absorption of nutrients.

Protect the eyes:

Once again, the antioxidants present in cherries play an important role. These compounds protect the eyes from damage caused by free radicals and decrease their cellular aging. Thus, there are benefits in terms of prevention against macular degeneration, cataracts and infections.

Heart disease:

The nutrients found in cherries, such as minerals, flavonoids, carotenoids and vitamins protect the cardiovascular system. Your proper contribution helps maintain a correct heart rate. The consumption of these fruits reduces the levels of inflammatory markers with the consequent benefits for the heart. They can also reduce the risk of stroke.

Brain:

Flavonoids and carotenoids are very effective in improving cognitive function. In particular, they improve the memory by keeping it active. In practice, they protect it from the action of free radicals, which is an inevitable condition of aging.

Nervous system:

The antioxidant properties of cherries also protect the nervous system from the problems related to aging. These fruits can be useful in the treatment of diseases such as Parkinson's disease, depression, anxiety and stress. The phenols present in these small fruits, have protective effects on neuronal cells. Phenolic compounds, including anthocyanins, protect neuronal cells from oxidative stress and, therefore, from neurodegeration. Anthocyanins can improve memory.

Insomnia:

Cherries can also be useful in cases of insomnia. These fruits are one of the few sources of melatonin in nature. This compound is responsible for the sleep-wake cycle and reduces body temperature. Recent studies suggest that consumption of cherries and their juice 30 minutes before bedtime promotes and improves the quality of sleep, has beneficial effects on the sleep cycle and improves, even slightly, the duration of sleep.

Uric acid:

Excess uric acid in the blood causes swelling, inflammation and pain. Several studies have shown that eating 2 cups of fresh cherries a day reduces the rate of uric acid in the blood by 15%.

Strength and Muscle Recovery:

Drinking cherry juice before physical activity reduces pain and muscle inflammation. In addition, the juice intake of these fruits can improve muscle strength.

Oral health:

Eating cherries prevents oral infections and bad breath.

Kidneys:

The cherry also serve to purify the kidneys and relieve cystitis, for this you must make decoctions and teas. To purify the kidneys, simply boil a liter of water and then dip a handful of dried cherry stems. Let infuse for about 10 minutes and then drink the herbal tea. In case of cystitis, prepare an infusion by boiling a handful of fresh wild cherry stems in a liter of water for 10 minutes. Strain and take two cups a day, away from meals.

Anti-inflammatory:

Scientific studies have shown that the anthocyanin present in cherries acts as anti-inflammatory drugs. Therefore, the consumption of cherries inhibits the activity of an enzyme specifically in the presence of inflammatory processes, so it exerts a very similar action to that of common anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen.

But cherries are not only the perfect allies of our health but also our beauty.

Benefits for the skin:

Thanks to the presence of carotenes, mineral salts, the presence of flavonoids, in combination with vitamins A and C, the intake of cherries stimulates the production of collagen, thus providing benefits to our skin. It is the ideal fruit to protect the skin of the skin. sun and get a natural and homogeneous tan. Its pulp is also an excellent revitalizing for the skin of the face, especially if it is irritated. If your skin is thick, try this cherry mask, rich in vitamins, healthy and inexpensive: take some cherries, remove the core and then crush and spread over the face and neck.

Anti-aging:

Cherries contain flavonoids, which, as we know, have very useful properties in the fight against dangerous free radicals. In addition, these fruits play a major role in the process that slows down the aging of body cells.

Lose weight:

With almost no calories, cherries can also be consumed in the context of low-calorie diets and diabetics' diets. Due to the richness of soluble fibers, they have a high satiety index compared to a limited caloric power and, therefore, can be a great snack for those who need to lose weight.

With the cherry prepare rich jams and sweets, infusions, teas and tizanas. They also prepare exquisite liquors with cherry, which are obtained from the distillation of this fruit.

For children under 3 years, it is recommended not to consume this fruit in large quantities, at that age, the laxative effect of cherries may be too strong, which does not occur in adulthood.

Its use is not recommended for people with liver or kidney failure.

If eaten in excess, they could cause colic or worsen the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. In these cases, their consumption should be as limited as possible.

I hope you like this initiative ... you can make suggestions and propose fruits and vegetables for the next delivery.
