• The West African Agricultural Productivity Program (WAAPP) collaborates with Côte d'Ivoire - and other West African countries - to recover and strengthen seed systems that were decimated previously due to lack of infrastructure and financing.
• Seeds from seed multiplication farms are of better quality, more resistant to pests, and can produce up to 50% more than traditional varieties.
• In Côte d'Ivoire alone, around 50,000 beneficiary farmers growing 100 000 hectares of land have improved the yield of their crops by 30% to 150%.

Farmers need seeds of better quality to be able to feed all people, in all parts of the world and every day.

For this reason, the West African Agricultural Productivity Program (WAAPP) is collaborating with Côte d'Ivoire - and other countries in West Africa - to recover and strengthen seed systems. "The experiences of Côte d'Ivoire show that it is important to involve different stakeholders in the cultivation of quality seeds that are needed to increase agricultural productivity and the amount of food available," says Pierre Laporte, director of the World Bank in charge of operations in Côte d'Ivoire.

"In recent years, the International Development Association has supported successful reforms that increased the competitiveness of the agricultural sector and allowed small farmers to significantly improve their income, food security and well-being."
