Cultivation of Ocumo Chino

in #farms5 years ago (edited)
Hello friends Steemians, today, I will speak, of a tuber that in my country Venezuela is known as ocumo chino, which gets the scientific name of Colocasia esculenta, is a botanical family of herbaceous plants, and is known in other parts of the world as taro or ear mammoth.

This plant has leaves in the shape of a heart, which produces a tuber rounded or oval, rough skin and brown color, these can be consumed, but one should consider, that these must be cooked with before, because they have a substance called calcium oxalate, that eating them raw could general damage level of the gastrointestinal tract, and therefore to injure the health.

The harvesting of this tuber is usually done manually, can be done using a plant or root of the same, which is to be transplanted on a land with a good dimension and a soil that is well paid, as this nutrient needs for the fruit to grow optimally.

Ocumo chino provides fruit in a period ranging from 7 to 9 months, and this vegetable is rich in minerals, nutrients, and dietary fiber, this tuber is widely used in my country, boiled to accompany meat, chicken and fish and even added to the boiled, also used for making dips, drinks and even sweets.

This tuber provides energy to consume it, it is good for digestion and helps to regulate the levels of glucose in the blood and is used to combat anemia, it is also said that contains vitamin C, which is beneficial to prevent diseases such as cancer and maintain a good immune system to prevent future pathologies.

Friends for all these reasons I highly recommend that you consider the consumption of this delicious tuber, which provide many benefits to your diet and therefore your health
