Social media in the agricultural sector is a development that has been going on for quite some time, exhibiting what happens during the food cultivation and production process. Some common ones patronized by lots of farmers include facebook group chats, twitter parties, youtube, instagram not forgetting steemit, @farms community. Farmers tend to use this to share their stories or seek out knowledge. One Doctor Channa Prakash even got a World Food Prize Award for sharing his agricultural know how through social media to help others.

"Felfie" is a term refering to a selfie that is taken during a farming activity.

So then the question is, has this helped farmers in anyway? and the answer to that is yes. First and foremost lets look at access to knowledge and information. New farmers venturing into the agricultural field find themselves in a community that they can reach out to people for help incase they need one. Don't get me wrong but bad people are all over the place even here on steemit, thus it is imperative to have a whole bunch of right information being circulated to have access to lots of people to confirm the right things to do as a newbie.

I know it may come as a surprise to some of you out there, maybe or maybe not, but the agricultural sector still carries with it a stereotype from the people believing is a work for the poor, non-lucrative, probably a waste of time and a cheat, since you work hard and some comes to carry your produce and mediocre price which use to happen to the indigenous farmers a lot during the time when support was not available but now with the help of social media people have come to understand that this stereotype ought to be discarded. Farming is very lucrative if done well and most agribussinesses in our contemporary are making fortunes. This happened because saw it and came to know it.

A world or networking has been established through social media, a cattle producer in Ghana makes a new friend in Nigeria, they share ideas and help each other better the produce. New breeds may reach places in which they weren't available through this network, imagine the Nungua black head bread of a goat in not available in Nigeria however they are very good at withstanding harsh conditions and their meat is very good, my nigerian friend may come in for some to be start a new breeding line from them to improve his production.

Through social media farmers have been able to establish a a market for retailing of their products. By taking time to portray the quality and healthiness of their good, they are able to reach out to industries that may be looking for produced for processing. This gives them right footing making bussiness deals that are in the interest of both parties.

HOW TO TAKE YOUR AGRICBUSSINESS TO SOCIAL MEDIA

  1. You have to post everyday, get a channel or a blog depending on the platform you want to use, but i will recommend steemit since you also get recognized for your efforts in posting. Your post must be interesting and aiding, be innovative, be creative, be natural and your peers will find you and link up.

  2. You may use adds when using platforms like facebook and youtube, you may not realized the impact at a go but it goes a long way to reach a lot of people.

  3. Don't hesitate to make an interesting video every once in a while, man gets convinced and tend to believe most often only after seeing, when they see you, they believe and tend to trust you.

So in conclusion i'd social media is friend of the farmer and thus ought to be recognized as such and utilized well to the best of ones abilities. Thanks to @steemchurch and @farms for the help and recognition they continue to give farmers day in day out. God bless us all.
