The Farming miracle for successful crop production.

Farming as often said is continual miracle, as the challenges in food crop production are bound. As such we still learn something new in the field everyday, as the unpredictable, constantly changing environment makes everyday a challenge. The following however, constitute to that miracle;

• Firstly, soil cultivation or tillage is extremely important as it facilitates root development and water management. A healthy plant therefore should have the same depth root growth as above ground growth. Any form of soil compaction must be addressed as it will hinder water circulation as well as root development with example being Maize.
• The choice of seed material should be greatly considered in order to have high yields. As such, improved crop varieties which are resistant to common diseases found in your environment should be used. Special attention should equally be paid to local seedling pests usually found there as their damage on crops is so enormous.

• Plant correct plant populations by respecting or following correct planting distances. This in effect will guide against competition for light and nutrients. Good seedbed preparation always contributes in the delivery of dividends. Areas with soils that keep water or are water log in nature should be avoided as it will inhibit the development of roots and their access to nutrients.

• The potential yield should of course be protected, fungal diseases and where detected early fungicide applications should be done in order to protect the plants. However, crop production can not effectively be carried on without the consideration of pests, diseases and how they should be handled as their very existence is based on these crops. Therefore various farm calendars and records should be diligently kept. It should therefore be a culture for us always carryout practices that will contribute greatly in increasing our crop yields.
  Always remember rule of thumb; good emergence of crop + good planting conditions + improved crop varieties = good yields.
