Gianfranco Ferre was born on August 15, 1944 in the small town of Lignano in the north of Italy. By the way, on the same day a great French general and emperor Napoleon Bonaparte was born. Ferre-father dreamed that the eldest son became a doctor, the mother wanted him to be a priest. Early leaving without his father, Gianfranco and his brother were brought up by the mother and two aunts who taught the children that it is best to be a pharmacist. It is this profession that can save the family's well-being. But once he read in the book of the famous American architect Lloyd Wright that architecture is the greatest evidence of human greatness, he submitted documents to the Polytechnic Institute of Milan for the architectural department.

Her childhood friend Iza Bertolini introduced him to Rosie and Franco Lemonta, owners of one of the most popular boutique chains at the time, Biffi, who suggested that he create a collection of leather accessories, and agreed that this would not interfere with the career of the architect.

In 1971, Ferre began working with the firm "Oaks" and his collection was shown at the Palazzo Reale in Milan. The coryphaees of the Italian Altamoda began talking about him, and soon the photo of his cloaks and sports coats with sewn backpacks published the most famous fashion editions. But Gianfranco still does not lose hope of engaging in architecture. Decisive in his career was the offer of a very fashionable then, but inexpensive then firm "Ketch". To control the entire process of creating a collection, he needed to go to India for several years. And Ferre, who since childhood has been a philanthropist of this country, enthusiastically accepts this offer.
