How do I feel after 7 days of fasting?

in #fasting6 years ago (edited)

Last week I stopped eating for 7 days to detox my body and this week I can report on what has changed for me:

  1. Improved appreciation of smell & flavour, maximising my enjoyment of eating.

  2. More conscious of acidic feeling after certain foods & drinks (cooked veg, nuts, pasta, bread, beer, wine). I can still have these foods/drinks but I must be more conscious of re-balancing my PH with lime juice (for example) after consuming them.

  3. The intensity of coffee is almost unbearable now. I feel my body stressed after I drink it now, yet I am so very hooked on the coffee morning routine. I am breaking this routine currently using a hot banana/coconut/cacao drink.

  4. I require less food now to feel full. We don't have to eat such big meals! Little snacks work too. Listen more to what the body is asking for.

  5. The feeling of hunger in the morning after a big meal the night before is not the same feeling of hunger when the body hasn't had food for a number of days. There are different types of 'hunger'.

This last point has been the most revealing for me. I am conscious now that I have been identifying my morning hunger as a need for food, when perhaps my body is actually asking me for lots of water and the time to digest what has been eaten the day before?

I intend to fast regularly from now on. Every month as a minimum, for three days at a time.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I’ve been reading a lot of positives on fasting. My wife and I are talking about doing this.

Feels like a really natural way to live. The way we used to live (for millions of years) before food became readily available to us.

Even the mainstream media seems to agree on the benefits and there are so many amazing people on YouTube sharing their experience.

Enjoy your journey!

It sounds a bit crazy hehe. I do agree on that we dont need to be eating so much and more healthly :D

For sure this one is a key. Eat till we are satisfied, not full.

Try it... you will be surprised how great you feel... once the hunger pains go!

I has talking medication and lost 10kg so not sure if its a good idea hehe. I am still "recovering" to get back the healthy kg I lost. :D

Fair enough. I wish you a speedy recovery :)

Thanks!

I have never fasted, maybe I should try it. I use milk thistle to help with the liver and probiotics for gut health. You can really feel the difference in the morning.

Sounds like you have things under control. But for sure, giving the gut a 'holiday' from digesting can only be a good thing.

Interesting about the hunger in the morning after a big dinner the night before.
Inspiring!

Yes, that was interesting. An unexpected find. Funnily enough I am sitting here this morning, drinking a jug of water, lime & pink rock salt because I had a super big meal last night. It's one thing registering the results but another altogether taking action. Old habits & routines can be tricky to break. But I'm getting there... :)

i always read your blogs and it inspired me a lot all the time you post your beautiful experiences which are really beautiful and amazing :))

Thanks for your lovely words :)

Am really pleased you're enjoying the ride. I will always do my best to produce content which helps people improve themselves in some way.

I've never truly fasted, I have only ever done a fresh juice fast. Any time one limits their diet, it seems to bring about a greater appreciation for flavor, like you say. The juice fast did do this for me, as well as a diet change of limiting carbs. After eating no sugar for some weeks, a simple orange tastes almost too sweet. It is amazing, actually.

It's unbelievable hey! The intensity of appreciation is so wonderful when the taste/smell senses have been starved for a while.

During my seven days I caught myself opening the fridge many times unconsciously and when I realised what I was doing, I would grab a mango or a lime and have a good old sniff to satisfy myself. And even just this was so great! Like a little treat before the next glass of water :)

Fruit fasts are really great for us, but I feel like water fasts are even better. Give it a try! Am sure your body will thank you for it.
