Lovely post @joanstewart, I just love the hoopoes! We used to have them in our garden but have not seen one for a couple of years now!
We also have a swallow's nest at our entrance, they've repaired it over the years and come back every year, always know they're back when the poop returns ;)

Oh well when the queen is in residence they fly a flag, when the birds are in residence the clean the nest for you to content with later... Thanks for visiting @lizelle

Some really great pictures. We had a swallow nest in one of the houses I lived in in Alaska, mud nest under the eaves,. It was so cool to watch the little guys fly in and out of it, and they did a fantastic job of keeping down the mosquito population.

They are very busy all the time, catching insects in flight, paused on the telephone wire waiting for the mate to come out from feeding.

Taking turns in and out of the nest under the eaves, running to an invisible clock raising young to fly back North soon.

Every season offers some change, makes life interesting just going outside to watch what's going on @steemflow

Lovely shots Lady Joan and your garden is certainly bird friendly! Blessings!

What a variety of birds in your garden! The pleasure is to watch them.
Hoopoes in Russia also live. But in the city you will not see them.

Sudanese proverb I liked. Well said.

Hoopoe birds are found in many countries out in the countryside @eto-ka nice to know they go as far north as Russia. Proverbs are thought provoking, I have always enjoyed them.

Very good photos, I'm glad to see you are enjoying yourself and really getting into this! Those Hoopoe birds are very cool. How do you like shooting with your new camera? I guess you can zoom at lot closer than before. Thanks for sharing in Feathered Friday! Voted and resteemed

Learning manual photography is taking a bit of time to find my way around, challenge is good. Yes this little camera zooms 40x which took me eight months of research, making a decision which would be better suited to the type of travel, beach visits etc.

Camera's with lens options always nice to have, however found it to become a bit cumbersome in carrying camera bags when out and about. Another problem living in our region is you become a 'target' for theft. Smaller camera fits in the pocket making it very portable and convenient.

Having a camera which you can quickly hide away is very useful. I have been to many places where I would not want to have my big DSLR because I would be far too noticeable. I use a smaller camera almost every day as I walk around the city.

I love the funky mohawk hair doo on the first bird :-)

and the Green singing Finch is cute too but not as flamboyant. Great pics. Makes me feel like I'm out in nature if only for a moment instead of stuck inside :-)

Hoopoe really has a great crown when they display it @raj808

Such a beautiful selection of Birds, I tried a bird feeder here but we are to close to the highway and no birds wanted to spend much time here

Not many birds like to settle in busy areas, depends on trees in the region, food availability.

We have Indian Mynah birds (Asian bird introduced in 1900 now thousands of them) they will nest in robot lights without a thought as to where they are. When the Cape (Blue) Starlings arrive they chase the Mynah birds, similar size with a little more attitude. Both nest in built up areas without worrying too much about humans.

When I first bought the bird house we had a good layer of trees between us and the road, but the week after they cut down a lot of the trees, to stop trees falling on powerlines in the area, and now its pretty clear between us and the road, was so frustrating I must admit

A fantastic feathered roundup! Love seeing all of the different shots. It is great when you have a spot that they return every year, as well. My boyfriend set up a little digital video camera at his mom and dad's house on a spot that gets a little nest every year. That way they can watch what's going on without scaring the birds away. :)

That sounds like a good idea @plantstoplanks problem with our feeder is in an open spot with a lot of thick bushes right on hand where they dive into when you approach.

Makes photography a greater challenge, also adds lovely sound when they visit, you can hear them chattering away.
