Quick Movie Wrap Up: Pom Poko!

Pom Poko is an animated feature film by Studio Ghibli. This was actually released way back 1994 but this is the first time I've watched it.

Pom Poko tells the story of the raccoons that are living in Tama Hills in Japan, and how they endured the modernization of their land.

You can see in this screenshot that some raccoons were living in this abandoned farm house but it's being demolished to make way for new buildings.

This development by humans in their hills resulted in the decline of food source and territory, that lead to some raccoons forming packs and waging war against each other.

This particular movie adapts folklore how these raccoons have the ability to transform themselves into upright walking ones, as well as other objects or living beings (and a lot more!).

They usually get drawn silly like this if they're in a very happy mood or if they're really scared or knocked out, I think the animators used this style to exaggerate the mood.

Their transformation ability doesn't end on their own bodies, they can also transform costumes and object around them, even the whole scenery.

This modernization resulted in the raccoons native home, the forest, to be developed into new apartments and other dwellings for humans.

This change forced the raccoons to gather themselves and try to resolve this issue and take matters into their own hands, or paws.

That's just the start, the movie is very fun to watch and has unexpected turn of events and great character development too, as expected from most Ghibli films.
