Good morning my food lovin’ friends!

How’s your week been? Things are heating up around here, tropical storms are showing up daily now, but it’s all good! We need the rain, the lake behind the Bird nest is down by about 10 feet. 2 or 3 of those heavy rains and it will be back to normal.

Gotta have water to keep the gators happy, right?

I’ve been moving a bit slow this week, as I hit the gym a little too aggressively. These old Bird bones just aren't as nimble as they used to be. I guess that means taking it slow for a couple of days, not as much activity in the kitchen. Not to worry, I have quite a few ideas stacking up in my bird brain, so stay tuned! I’ll be back in top form in no time!

Wait, I just realized its Friday! You know what that means? FoodFightFriday!

I can’t let my #fff friends down, and we still have to eat so how about a little…

Dragon Fruit Love for my #fff friends

I love Dragon fruit, in fact every time I see them at the market I want to buy one, just having them in my fruit bowl on the counter makes me happy. It’s the same feeling I get with a fresh bouquet of flowers, makes you want to smile! I know, I know crazy bird, lol

Did you know it grows on a cactus!

Yes, another cactus fruit! Why the name? Dragon fruit have scales…like dragons! They’re really good for you full of fiber and magnesium but low in calories and sugar!

Today I found a bright yellow Dragonfruit! How neat is that? I was interested to see if the taste was any different from the bright pink variety. Typically Dragonfruit are either bright pink with white flesh, bright pink with pink flesh or yellow with white flesh. The yellow variety are supposed to be the sweetest. This will be great in my morning smoothie!

My Golden beets…

can’t have a smoothie without those. Strawberries, avocado, spinach too!

Last but not least…

Spirulina! The color alone is enough to make you use it! I’m sure you all know this stuff is another superfood! Fights cholesterol issues, high blood pressure and helps maintain good gut health. I don’t have to tell you how important that is! More info here!

Oh and check out these cute white flowers! i thought I would do a little research to make sure the weren't poisonous before I stuck them in Mr. Bird smoothie bowl. From my garden, they’re called Pentas or Egyptian Starclusters. I have pink, purple and white and guess what? Bees, butterflies and hummingbirds love theses flowers so I have them planted all around the yard. They're not poisonous, in fact they have medicinal properties too! Native to Africa, this plant has been used to treat Malaria, snake bites and various infections!

I always knew dragonfruit is healthy (my mum says so) but now I know why!! ((:

hehe, we moms do know a wee bit don't we, lol Now when she says you they're healthy, you can tell her why! Thanks @joeylim!

That look so good, I have had dragon fruit before and I have to admit I never knew it was from Cactus, but iusnt it such a fun looking and interesting fruit and I love how you incorporate dit into this dish

Thanks for being an Active Member of SteemUSA !tip

I know, isn't that fun? Who would think this would grow on a cactus! My kids are trying to get a cutting for me, I would love to try to grow one! Thanks @tattoodjay, I hope you have had a fun weekend :)

For sure it is, that would be so cool if your kids can get you a cutting how cool would that be to grow your own
I have been pondering when we move if we have a space set up a small area for a mix of a rock and cacti garden, and even better when we were at Lowes yesterday and I mentioned the idea to my wife she loved the idea, so maybe it will come to be

Now my idea of setting up a salt water reef aquarium didnt go down quite so well LOL

Aww... dragon fruit. It doesn't grow here in Belgium, and it is usually not sold in any shops either. Lasr year, our nearby supermarket offered an entire collection of tropical fruits, dragon fruit being one of them.

I fell completely in love... they look amazing, the texture of the inside feels great inyour mouth and they're delicious.

Unfortunately, that was the only time I came across it.

I bought some seedsand tried to get them to sprout, but so far, no luck...

They are great aren't they? Ii too am so amazed at the complexity, texture and color of this one little fruit! So glad to hear you found the, and that you tried to sprout your own!! I'll have to try that myself. Just started my first pineapple plant, wish me luck! I have been so blessed to find so many new fruits and veggies that, varieties unknown to me, quite a treat! So glad to hear from you @simplymike :)

The sprouting didn't work, however. But then again, the plant is not adapted to our climate. From what I understand, it can grow quite big, and it would be a hassle to bring it inside for winter every year....

Mmmmm... dragon fruit! I've only had it a couple of times, but it is so hard to get here in Netherlands. In Australia, it is much more common... perhaps I should try it again when I go there later this year!

However, I've never heard of Spirulina!

Thanks @bengy, it was tasty, I hope you get to enjoy it again soon! My kids are trying to get a dragon fruit cutting for me...wouldn't it be great to grow one? Spirulina, is soooooo good for you!!! Another superfood, wonderful in smoothies, juices and even in baked goods ;) a great anti-inflamitory and high nutrient food suppliment.

It is so cool of you to join us on Friday’s. Thanks for continuing to support @foodfightfriday, you’re a shoe in winner every week @birdsinparadise—everyone knows it. Thanks for taking it easy on the rest of us. 😉

@dandays, I love the #fff community. What a fun bunch, although I can't hold a candle to most of the contenders, lol I'll just keep throwing my food in the fight each week! Love, love hearing your travels and adventures (and of course food!) Keep it comming my friend! :)

One for me, please. Now would be a good time.

Woo, hoo this gets me every time....I can just see my little grandson at dinner time, lol
Love it!

Well you are welcome to our humble abode anytime. :)

I love dragon fruit. I don’t think I’ve seen it here anywhere. Maybe a bigger farmers market would have it but I didn’t even know about the yellow variety. Yum! Your smoothie blows my rinky dink smoothie out of the water any day. My God Mrs Bird, even the deconstructed ingredients makes my smoothie look like a peasantly sight among the beauty of your nutrient bowl. Bravo sista, you’re such a kitchen Queen 😉. Happy food fight @birdsinparadise :)

You'll have to look us up when you get back in Florida! Ah, you see this smoothie is for my better half...you should see mine some time ;) all the leftover bits thrown on top of the smoothie, lol I'll have to post a pic next time? Everything but the kitchen sink goes in our smoothies right? This was the first yellow dragon fruit I've seen around here, usually I find pink ones. Happy food fight to you...I'll be heading over to see your post now. Haven't been on the keyboard as much lately :) Hope you had a sweet weekend @puravidaville, blessings my f riend

Yes!!! I definitely throw the kitchen sink in our smoothies. Every ingredient has a healing or nourishing purpose. All the toppings are for photo shoots. Haha

I haven’t been on here much lately myself. I try to carve out about two days a week when I’m really active here but outside of that life has taken precedent. Although, tomorrow’s food fight Friday will be something new and exciting. Dandays and I have been working on it for a few days. Looking forward to sharing it with everyone.

Thanks for all your support Mrs. Bird. Every time I see a birds in paradise, which we see all the time, I think of you 😉

I know, living with so much fresh fruit every day, hmmm Truly blessed, never in my life have I experienced this much diversity in the fruits and veggie market :)

I never tasted a dragon fruit but i heard a lot about it. Looks so exotic to us living in Europe:)

Exotic is right! Every time I see one at the market I am amazed, they're kind of scary, beautify :) And they're tasty! I know you have your own exotic fruit in Europe!

They look like taken out of Game of Thrones, lol. We have some kind of exotic fruits in Greece. Like oranges, lemons and peaches:)
