FFFPB&J and an Apple - Food Fight Friday

in #fff5 years ago (edited)

Here’s that opening sentence again, the one I struggle with the most, is it over? Can I open my eyes now?

Well.. well.. well.. check us out, we meet again, it’s nice to see you again! nice to be seen Welcome to my favorite Friday of the week! I think I’m doing three dishes this evening, a three course meal, if that’s what you want to call it. You’d be wrong if you did call it that but who cares, the more mistakes we make, the more chances we give ourselves at perfection.

I’ve been wanting to check out this Hachiya Persimmons for almost two weeks. The guy at the farmers market told me it would be best to wait at least 10 days before cutting into it so I’ve been patiently waiting — today’s the day. This thing better be good! Tonight I’ll be introducing at least two contenders, the second one is for the fellas who tell me they don’t enter the food fight kitchen because their wife does all of the cooking. Yeah, you’re next! But, first things first:

A smidgen of iPhone assistance here

I found these things Wednesday before last at the farmers market here by our home. I’ve never had one. They were at our favorite fruit stand; where we get our apples, nectarines, pluots, grapes, etc. Here’s what it looks like in a basket with some of those other fruits I mentioned.

Small portion of iPhone assistance here too

Alright, let’s do this! The way to eat these things is by cutting the top, the same way you cut your pumpkins last week and scoop the center out like you would a kiwi.

You get the picture

I cut it and then realized I didn’t take a picture, for anyone who’s wondering what that line across the top of it is. For those of you who didn’t see it, forget I said anything. This is what they look like when you take the lid off.

I scooped out that center core part so I could get a good taste of the fruit.

That’s the worst fruit I’ve ever had in my mouth!! I don’t know why that thing is called a fruit?! It shouldn’t be called a fruit, I don’t think it should be called food. I gave @puravidaville a piece also, both of us, instantly our mouths were dry. It was as though our taste buds jumped ship like:

Yeah, those things suck! I don’t know how they sell those things. Pura Vida, I’m not making this up either, she ran into the bathroom to stare at her tongue in the mirror fearing she was having an allergic reaction. Yeah, it was that bad! The only thing I could think of was cut an Apple (my phone capitalized Apple like that, not me, it did it again in this set of parenthesis too) stat!!! And hope the Apple taste would erase that Hiya yuck gross or whatever it’s called. It worked!

and that’s what I think of Hachiya Persimmons

This is the conclusion of your first and second (the Apple) course. The Apple wasn’t planned, it was necessary.

Hey, what’s up @thebigsweed, how’s it goin? I hope you don’t mind being the center of attention. If you do mind, I was wondering, how do you deal with all of the resteems from @theluvbug? 👏

My wife and I just got back from Las Vegas late last night, we were there since the beginning of the week. This morning, when I was going through my responses, I read one from @thebigsweed. It goes like this.

Me:

You should hang out in the #fff kitchen with us on Friday’s, it’s a lot of fun, a real cool group of people too.

In his response, he briefly explained a movie to me called PT-109, a story about JFK’s participation in WWll. I guess there’s a part at the beginning of the movie where the higher ranks are asking everyone on the crew if they can cook. One guy said the only thing he knows how to make is peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and because of that, the captain appointed him chef.

I’ve never seen the movie but from those few sentences, it sounds pretty funny! Then he said:

😁 😁 😁 That sums up my cooking ability.

Well, @thebigsweed, this one’s for you and anyone else who’s scared to show off their peanut butter and jelly skills. Oh, I get it, trust me! Not just anyone can put together a PB&J that’s post worthy. It’s a special breed, I know what you mean, check this out, you ready for this trick? You might want to sit down — I used two different kinds of bread!

I know you won’t be able to tell, but I spread the peanut butter across the Flax Chia bread and the jelly across the Multi-Seed, this is a Flax Chia Multi-Seed, all in one, food fight Friday contender. It’s not just a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

What’s up? Is my contender not smoooooth enough for you? Let me guess, you can spread jelly more evenly, right? Well, can your jelly do this? No added sugar - ✔️

I don’t use that ‘dark place, storage safe’ stuff they call peanut butter either, nope! You won’t find any of that on this sandwich. The peanut butter on this fffpb&j has peanut oil and peanuts — this sandwich is crazy like that.

I wish you could’ve seen the flip, it was magical, you’ll have to take my wOrd for it. No bread realigning required, just a lift, flip, plant and tada! What you’re about to witness, ladies and gentlemen of #steemit is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich — no more excuses.

Piece o’ cake, right? I thought about calling this one thebigsweedwich or something along those lines but I didn’t want anyone to think I thought of it before you or anything. 😉

Same place next week, deal? Follow @foodfightfriday, join us in the kitchen next week, you might even win some SBD.

PS.
This week was pretty cool for Pura Vida and I, we experienced one of those ‘first time’ moments. Those of you who are following us might have noticed we both caught the attention of @curie on Monday. They were only 30 minutes apart, too, pretty exciting! One trail is exciting under one roof, you know what I mean by that, right? 😉 But when there’s only two of you and you both hit curation trails, it’s frikkin awesome! Thank you all for your continued support. If you didn’t get a chance to check us out:

howdy sir dandays! Great post and highly entertaining! lol. I'm shocked those persimmons were that bad, that's strange.

Hey it’s that gun slingin’ author, @janton himself, it’s always a pleasure to hear from you, sir!

See the cover image, the Persimmons sign says “great for baking?” I would just bake them and throw em at something, I wouldn’t recommend eating them regardless of the preparation. 😉

I didn’t make that part up about the allergies either! Lol. My wife really did run into the bathroom to stare at her tongue dreaming about “I think I’m allergic!!”

Thanks for stopping by @janton!

edit When I did these Persimmons a month ago, completely different! Textured like a cantaloupe, not quite a sweet but they weren’t bad at all! I can’t say the same thing for the Hachiya’s.

howdy today dandays! Once a gunslinger always a gunslinger that's for sure. In fact those persimmons would make good targets! lol. Sounds like that's the only thing they're good for, they would explode nicely!

So that other type persimmon was good so you just have to get the right kind huh?
that was a highly entertaining post, good job!

🥜🍓🍞😎

Ill take one tehe. Well thanks for the warning. Probably will never eat that "fruit", or like @sivehead's wifey says "i aint eating that crap". Welcome back ;)

See the sign for them? Next to the big basket, it says “good for baking.” I’m calling BS on that one too.

Thanks for the welcome, it’s peobably better if I said we were there on business, not pleasure, takes the ‘vegas’ aspect out. All we did was put a bunch of miles on the rental car. Eh, but we got everything handled just in time!

Thanks for stopping by @weirdheadaches, you’re a machine!

I am going to have to insist you employ that napkin under your sandwich making tactic every time you make a sandwich @Dandays.

Funny post again! That persimmons was NOT good at all. Thank you for fixing it with the Apple :).

Iheart u foo xxx

It’s awesome to hear you laugh out loud at my article, I’m always “Yes!!” Thank you! iheartu all the time.

Luckiest guy I know.

It’s easy when you’re funny!
