Talk About A Food Fight Spread: Food Fight Friday

Hi folks!

It’s triple F and I’m left standing here with no recipe to share. Hmmmmm… what’s a food fight Queen to do? I know, I’ll show some of the flops I’ve made that weren’t photogenically post worthy but tasted all too good regardless.… ready, set, go…

Welcome to @foodfightfriday where we do whatever we want food and have fun creaming eachother in the face with our meals. Anyone can join the reindeer games, you just have to post something food and tag it #fff. What cha waiting for sissy? We don’t bite but we do sting sometimes 🤷🏼‍♀️ Only because I have a mean food slinging arm :)

Anyway, let’s start with a good breakfast. Above is a couple of overnight oat mason jars. I make these for Dandays and I often. They are filled with gluten free rolled oats, sea salt, cinnamon, a pinch of maple syrup, coconut shreds, chia seeds, almond butter, cacao nibs (not to be confused with cocoa), almond milk, strawberries, blueberries and almonds. Can anyone say “they’re… ggggrrreeeaaattt”? Everyone loves over night oats, right?

Here’s a midday snack that puts a new spin on the ole cucumber roll. I don’t have a mandolin so had to slice these cuc’s the old fashioned way with a knife. Talk about meticulous… then I slathered a spoonful of spicy hummus, centered a few asparagus spears, added a spoonful of grated radish and jicama and rolled these suckers up using a toothpick to keep them in place.

They didn’t turn out to be the prettiest snack ever but sure did satisfy @Dandays and my taste buds for a bit.

What? I haven’t told you about my late night sweet tooth snack addiction? Sometimes a good chocolate chip pancake drizzled in maple syrup/agave is just what the doctor ordered.

These guys were put together after Dandays and I peddled our bikes all the way downtown to catch a hip hop group we like perform at this innacuous venue, only to get there and not be able to handle the screeching punk music that prefaced our show so we took off. It wasn’t a total loss though because we got to explore our city at night and work up a late night craving for something sweet. That’s when these chocolate chip pancakes were born. Can I get a “Amen”?

Yep, here we go… I wanted to make a vegan and gluten free donut and don’t even like donuts. These donuts were inspired by cinnamon coffee cake and created with no special utensils or baking pan. I know the holes baked out a bit but you certainly couldn’t tell from the taste of it. Needless to say the grumpy old Vietnam Vet who hangs out at my work everyday said “Pura Vida, you just might turn me into a vegan”. If you knew this guy you’d know just how much a compliment that really was.

A stoners guiltless dream, nacho cheese over homemade chiliquiles. I know what you’re thinking, “but Pura Vida, that doesn’t look like its dairy free…” would y’all believe that it’s made out of carrots, potatoes, jalapeño and noot? By the way noot is nutritional yeast if you’ve been living under a rock for several years. Soooo goood!

I whipped up some fresh chips from corn tortillas, tossed em in a spicy salsa sauce and drizzled the cheese on last. Definitely a fork necessary kind a set of nachos.

I hope y’all didn’t mind this little food fight Friday switch up. Sometimes it’s fun to throw a wrench in things (not at things, that’ll ruin your walls). Enjoy your weekend friends and thanks for spending some time with me today you food boogers!

Taking really good food pictures can be a real challenge, great idea to post some of the less perfect looking shots. They are probably very relatable to most including myself :)

It’s can be a challenge, especially when you’re hungry and you know it’s getting cold all in the name of getting the perfect shot. I’m by no means a professional food blogger so I appreciate the mess ups. I like to relate to everyone and hopefully show that not every meal is “post worthy” but most meals are delicious. Haha. Woah! You should open a restaurant @pruavidaville! Your recipes are amazing! I love that you are doing so well with the gluten free. And chocolate for breakfast? I think we can be steem buddies for life! My day usually kickstarts with my cacao fudge. I am a chocoholic but these are all healthy so I have no qualms gobbling a couple with my morning green tea. Happy to have caught one of your #fff although I'm sorry I usually miss them

Don’t apologize, I appreciate each visit you make. Dandays and I have lightly talked about opening up a casual beach shack where we provide teas, cafe, homemade almond milks, pressed juice and whatever I’m making that day. It’s quite sensationalized in my imagination but I know all too well how difficult the restaurant industry is. I imagine myself somehow avoiding all of that madness with a simple family owned concept. Haha… we’ll see!

YEAH!!! Breakfast fudge every day. As far as a simple family owned concept.....ummm....not happening. That's how my little raw health restaurant started. I loved it but it was all consuming. There is a need and interest for this healthier lifestyle and people want to know how to eat better. You really don't stay small and simple for long. I eventually wasn't enjoying it as it was like working two jobs! I was exhausted. I think done properly with a few of the right people (a number of simple family's) it would probably work. But then you need everyone on board and pulling together. And you know how nasty business can turn among friends

I suspected as much. Having been in the food industry from teen age to now, I’ve never seen an owner relaxed and casual. Haha… in a perfect world it would be nice though.

I made sure o have a bowl on Total whole grain flakes with some blueberries, before ever entertaining the idea of viewing. Good thing, every dish looks better than the next.

The last dish looks like a great late night snack. It would for sure squelch the munchies after an evening movie and a little indulgence.

Totally agree that many of the flops are still mighty darn delicious!! @dksart would gobble up all those nachos. I don't make those near enough, but that's what he gets every time we go to my favorite local vegan restaurant, haha. Those cucumber rolls are totally calling my name. I'm usually too lazy to roll stuff up all nice like that, but it does make them look super cute. He's on duty tonight for some baked fries! I can smell that starchy goodness cooking right now...

Have you ever had rutabaga fries? They are soooo gooood. If you can’t tell how good they are, just look at how many o’s I used to say that.

The nachos are always a hit. The problem is that my recipe yields a lot. Not a bad problem to have I suppose. Yum, I can almost taste those baked fries at your house 😋.

I haven't tried them yet, but you've definitely put them on my list!! It's tough to beat @dksart's oven fries, though. 😉 Though I think it might just be that I appreciate when he takes the reigns in the kitchen so I get a night off, haha! I'm so behind on posting stuff, so get ready for an onslaught this week if I have time to catch up!

Anything fries is a winner is my book. I remember when Dandays first introduced me to @foodfightfriday, he was cooking at least one day a week then to have something documented for his entry. That was fun :). There’s nothing like coming home from a long day and your partner has warm food m, ready to be served, in the oven.

So much food and all soooooooooooo yummy!!! Donuts, cheeze tortilla chips and cucumber roles and everything healthy!!! Great job my Dear Puravidaville, I only wish I could have some 😊

You know you killed it, right? Your throw back pictures are masterpieces, chef! Just sayin. “Yeah, um.. sorry, I don’t have anything this week for #fff except for these old pictures of some dairy free cheese and these veganized donuts and chocolate chip pancakes but that’s all.”

I don’t know about grape free wine, I could probably pull off alcohol free wine though 🤷🏼‍♀️ We’ll call it cider. Hey, when are you going to brew your own beer? Sounds like a very Dandays thing to do to me. I heartu now and forever. Thanks for always supporting me xox

Awesome! I’m so glad you stopped by and liked it. Really these were just random pictures I’ve taken of some of the more “fun” foods we indulge in. Those nachos were fun and semi healthy 🤷🏼‍♀️ I would love to see a collection of your “non post worthy” treats @birdsinparadise. Bring it on ;)
