The Things We Find in Search of God
by Jaundré van Breda

It was a year since his wife went missing, and a year since he went into the attic. For some reason he felt drawn to it, but up until now he resisted the urge. God knows why. With a sigh, he eventually decided it was time.
In the attic he found a dusty wooden box in one corner. He wiped a layer of thick dust off the lid and found two words carved into its surface: It's time.
He examined the letters carefully. They were deeply carved with a knife or some other sharp object. He decided to swing the heavy lid open on its rusted hinges. A cloud of dust rose. Inside the box was a neatly folded dress stained in what appeared to be dark blood splatters. He put the dress aside and went through the rest of the box's contents. He found three shotgun shells, a gold ring and an empty beer bottle.
"Fuck," he said, but quickly clasped a hand over his mouth when he saw the last item: a bible.
He picked up the old leather bound book and opened it. He frowned when he paged through it. All the pages were blank (as far as he could tell) except for one. There was a picture pasted on one page.
"God," he breathed through slightly parted lips. It was a picture of her. Above it a note was written: You killed me. It's time.

I love how your pieces are like a short stories from someone's dark dreams. I've been really enjoying them :)

I'm so glad to read that, my friend.
