Mum, can I sleep with you?

in #fiction6 years ago

"Alice, it's getting late, time to sleep."

"Mum, can I sleep with you?"

Alice is still sitting on the carpet, playing with her dolls and teddy bears. The clock is ticking and she has school tomorrow - now it's 20 minutes past 10 in the night. Her mum gave a sigh, this child seems to not want to sleep according to schedule, and she doesn't have a clue why is this so. She's free from blue light pollution, no bad addiction, and whatever that might cause a child to sleep later than usual.

She just loves to stay up late, and probably loves sticking to her mum. That's what her mum guessed.

"Alice, if you're not going to sleep now, we're not going to have yoghurt tomorrow. You have your own room, and you were happy with it." Said her with a stern voice. This trick always work. Indeed, Alice showed an unhappy face and dragged her feet into her room. She really doesn't want to sleep, her mum thought.

After making sure that her dear daughter turned the lights off, she went back to her own room. Lights off, the house is then shrouded by nightshade.

Soon, snores could be heard from the mum's room. Meanwhile, Alice is still wide awake in her room.

Her room is a typical child bedroom - a soft bed, with teddy bears on it and dolls beside, sitting on a near table. The air conditioner is working as usual, giving out a faint humming sound. Moonlight showered into her room from window, reflecting on her teddy bears' eyes.

The moonlight made everything so pale, her dolls seems to become zombies, the teddy bears seem to become scary, and they are all staring on her.

She didn't want to look at them. These are not her toys, mumbled her. The air conditioner is working as usual, emitting faint LED lights in the dark. There's another air purifier that has a reddish LED shining - she doesn't like it. It looks like an alien, staring at her every single moment. The air conditioner isn't helping, the humming sound is irritating to her sensitive ears.

Sitting on the bed, she slowly couldn't hold herself, and dozed off. She know the alien is looking at her, and the dolls are still spooky. The spinning fan in the air conditioner is like a storm far away - that's what she feels.

Out of a sudden, she started to feel things. The red light is moving. Cold sweats are flowing on her forehead, back, and hands. Her feet turned ice-cold, as if the air conditioner didn't want her to run. The dolls started moving, like a zombie apocalypse.

She never knew that the alien could have 4 hands. The red lights seem to be getting brighter and larger. She tried to scream but nothing came out. A teddy bear held her hand tight at this very moment, not to give her courage, but to stop her from moving. Other teddys joined, flooding the bed and tied her onto her mattress. Soon, she found herself within the reach of the red-eyed alien, and cold hands are holding her neck...

A bright light flashed, followed with a loud thunder. Alice sprung up from her bed, like receiving an electric shock. She was breathing quickly, having cold sweat all over her body. Her back was wet, just like the house's roof. A heavy rain was pouring and the room became colder. She wanted to grab her teddy, but a lightning reflected on its eye shocked her in the heart, making her to take back her hand immediately.

It is like any other night. But with thunders and a nightmare.

"Mum, I really want to sleep with you..."

Slowly, she can't hold herself anymore, and dozed to sleep, again.

"Alice, time to sleep."

"...mum, can I sleep with you?"

"Alice is a good girl, you have your own room, right?"

She gave another unhappy face, dragged her feet into her room again. She really wanted to sleep with her mum.

--End.

As I said. It's kind of inspired by one of my own imaginations - I have a standing fan in my room, and it does have 3 red LED lights shining on it. When turning swing to be on, the lights are irritating as hell and it indeed gives me a hard time sleeping. There's even one time I mistook it as some creature...yea. Brain is indeed broken.

This was quite a horrifying story, but it was gripping. I found myself imagining this scene play out in my mind. Poor child. If only her mother knew what she was going through, she would surely let her sleep in her bedroom instead.

If only she would tell her mother though.

Sleep tight :)

Thanks exactly what I was thinking!!! :)
