Don't Call me in the middle of the night!! Prader-Willi Syndrome

in #fiction5 years ago (edited)

A book I wrote about an unfortunate situation that happened to my family and I tried to glean some humor from it. There is more explanation at the end after the story.

My son with special needs likes to call people on the phone. He likes Policemen and if he can get access to a phone will call 911. It is easy to teach a child to call 911 in the case of an emergency because who knows what could happen?

I have heard stories of a 3-year-old calling and saving grandpa's life when his heart isn't working correctly.

When a kid is 6 at a 6-year-old level and calls 911 saying "come get my sister she is being mean to me" it is funny.

When your son is 12 (at a 6-year-old level), you are at your Friend's McMansion, where there is a phone in every room and your son has every 911 line in the city of Birmingham locked down because he has called 911, 20 times it is not so much fun.

When your son is 19 (6 year-old-level) and calls 911 multiple times causing the Sheriff's Department to surround your house with pistols drawn....not funny.

I wrote the book up above, trying to make a funny commentary about a not-so-funny behavior. I tried to make fun of a situation that happened to me. If we as parents can laugh about something instead of cry it helps us cope.

My friend Andrew Gutu did the artwork for me.

Please know I am aware that if a child misbehaves rewarding the behavior with a ride in a firetruck is not a solution. Certain liberties were taken with a non-fiction story and making it a fun fiction story. Thanks for reading.

Thank Vangie, very kind words indeed. What should I write about? What would you read?

I prefer with pictures and light reading as too many long reports to read at work so light lively reading is quite relaxing to read after work
