Sophia hated Halloween, she often wished they'd cancel it, the dark holiday brought back horrible memories she had suppressed for years.

She glance at the decoration in front of the houses and sighed,"I hope mom takes it easy on the decoration tonight", she muttered under her breath.

She saw a young woman dressed in a gypsy attire waving at her from afar, she squinted to try and make out the face but she was too far away.

She crossed the road when the traffic light turned red and walked towards the woman. "Do I know you?,"she said.

"No you don't know me but Madam Tessa has been waiting for you,"she replied pointing towards the Tavern behind her.

"Madam Tessa?," Sophia asked puzzled since the name didn't ring a bell.

The young woman nudged her into the dimly lit tent with lots of voodoo like stuffs hanging from the wall. Behind a glowing crystal ball sat an elderly lady.

The whole atmosphere seems so eerie and Sophia hated that so she turned to make a run for it but the clear booming voice of the woman stopped her in her track.

"Sit Sophia White",she said and waved towards the low small stool opposite her.

Sophia eyed both the stool and woman cautiously like they were both objects that could take her life but she wondered how the old woman knew her name.

She sat anyway since she was pretty sure the other woman was outside to stop her exit.

"I don't think we've met before so how do you know my name",she asked.

"You must face your fears and regrets tonight my child for she will come for you and if care is not taken, she will take you,"she said scaring Sophia.

"I have no clue what you're talking about, I think you got the wrong person so I'm gonna leave,"she replied and stood up.

"Its been fifteen years Sophia, she will no longer wait for you, she will do what must be done",

Sophia stopped in her tracks and turned to look at the old woman whose seemed concentrated on the glowing crystal ball.

"She will come with the tide tonight my child and she won't leave till she is done ", she concluded.

Sophia didn't wait to hear more, she stormed out of the tent hyperventilating and scared.

She stumbled down the road and didn't stop till she got to the seaside bus stop where she would get a bus to her parent's house.

She sat on the bench and waited for the bus, she couldn't seem to stop shaking, the crazy old woman's words did that.

She was pretty sure the old woman's knowledge of what happened fifteen years ago was just a coincidence or maybe she was one of the few people that knew what happened.

She saw the lights of the bus as it approached its stop and stood up. She got on was soon on her way.

A figure crawled out of the roaring sea, long wet hair plastered against her equally wet, pale and translucent skin.

She glitch and walked from the beach to the bus stop Sophia just left, her face hidden behind her long wet hair but her whole attention was on the bench as though Sophia was still there.

She vanished into thin air when another bus approached the stop, leaving behind a wet spot where she had stood.

Sophia alighted from the bus and walked to the front door expecting the house to be heavily decorated but it was not.

She let herself in with her own keys. It was quiet and dark,"maybe my parents are already in bed,"she thought.

She switched on the living room lights and removed her shoes. She noticed the post-it paper on the wall very close to the light switch.

She read it and grimaced, her parents has gone for another Halloween ball party and wouldn't be back till the next day.

"I guess I have the house to myself tonight and I hope no trick or treating brats comes visiting,"she muttered under her breathe.

She switched off the lights and headed up the stairs to her room, "All I need is a shower and a good night sleep,"she thought.

She suddenly stopped in her tracks and turned abruptly, for a moment she thought she saw something at the foot of the stairs,"just my imagination,"she shrugged and went up the remaining flight of the stairs and into her room.

It wasn't her imagination, the figure at the foot of the stairs ascended slowly, leaving wet footsteps on the banished woods, soon it was at the top of the stairs and moving towards Sophia's room.

The wet figure got to the entrance of her room and walked through the closed door and into the room and approached the sleeping Sophia.

Sophia felt cold drops of water on her skin and slowly opened her eyes only to see a floating ghostly wet figure hanging over her.

She let out a scream and jumped up from her bed but there was no ghostly wet figure and the room was flooded with early morning light.

She sighed and got up from bed,"this is what i get for staying up late at night watching horror movies", she thought and walked out of the room.

She missed the half dried up droplet of water all over her bed and pillow. Had it just been a dream or was the past back to haunt Sophie?.
