THE NIGHT TRIP PART 1 OF 3

Elvira couldn't contain her joy. She was very excited and won't stop talking about it. She checked her bag for the umpteenth time to make sure she is not forgetting anything she needs to take along. It's a long distance from home and forgetting anything means having to buy another one over there and that luxury she can't afford now. She will be Eighteen in few months and even though her father didn't like the idea of her travelling alone, his hands are tied. He had relocated his family from the Aba a city in the east to Ibadan, another in the southwest in a hurry. Now, Elvira will have to travel back two weeks later to sit for her final exams. This time she will be travelling alone, not just alone but in a luxurious bus and at night.

She has heard tales of how exciting night journeys are especially in one of those long buses that feels like a house with aircondition and lots of passengers. She once heard there is a television to entertain passengers during the long journey and also free meals. Elvira felt like an adult as she stood naked in front of the mirror. She is happy she is becoming a woman with all the curves in the right place although her chest lumps seems not to be developing at the rate she wants but it's okay she thought to herself. Soon she will have a boyfriend and once he starts caressing it, they will become ripened. That's what Adore her girlfriend has told her.

"Elvira, it's time to go", her father called out knocking gently on her door "

"Gimme ten daddy, I'll be out soon". She hurriedly got into her cloth and started the final check on her belongings. She was ecstatic.

"Elvira!"

"Coming Dad"

Elvira couldn't believe how humongous the luxurious bus looked. She felt like an ant standing beside it. She's never been a tall girl and this bus just made her feel shorter. The conductor as she's heard so many call him took her ticket from her, he had this quizzical look. Elvira shot him a roguish grin and adjusted her blouse revealing a lil cleavage, her way of showing him she's an adult. He ushered her in with a wave of his hand. Elvira turned around and hugged her dad. He can't believe he is letting his lil girl take this trip alone. A thousand and one thoughts of things that could possibly go wrong ran through his mind. He looked at her, cupped her face with his hands and smiled assuring her that she will be alright. She couldn't help but notice the tear drops forming around her father's eyes. It was painful seeing him so helpless. All she could do was wipe off the tears and force him to smile.

"I'll be fine Dad, don't worry about me", she embraced him and kissed him on the cheek. She could hear him suffocating with each breath he took holding onto his pride. She wasn't gonna let daddy stop her from making this trip or suddenly change his mind about her going alone.
