The Sound of Evil

-Ripe fucking pumpkin!
-Told you. And he pulled a 50 from his partner’s pocket. Let’s take the week off. The minister is in charge.
-Call the AG. Suicide.
When I read the prompt, I immediately thought about Halloween and all that. Then, I thought of another use for the word, the affectionate term used to refer to our kids and was about to write a story involving a kid. But after the tragedy on Monday (https://steemit.com/venezuela/@hlezama/venezuelan-cartoonists-the-heroes-fighting-misinformation-war ) that has my country on edge (and after my personal tragedy, which gave the word suicide a different meaning), I could not stop thinking about the event, what went on there, what those bastards did and how they did it, the absolute normality with which they must handle brutality inflicted upon the human body, which for them must be deprived of any emotional referent. Nothing scarier than having the certainty that the bad guys are the ones in uniform, the ones that are supposed to protect you.

Cuando leí la palabra de la semana, inmediatamente pensé en Halloween y todo lo relativo a esta celebración. Luego, pensé en otro uso de la palabra, el término cariñoso usado para referirnos a nuestros niños y tuve a punto de escribir una historia que involucraba una niña. Pero, después de la tragedia del lunes (https://steemit.com/venezuela/@hlezama/venezuelan-cartoonists-the-heroes-fighting-misinformation-war ) que tiene a nuestro país en vilo (y después de mi tragedia personal, que le dio a la palabra suicidio un nuevo significado), no pude evitar pensar en el incidente, lo que realmente pudo haber sucedido ahí, lo que esos bastardos hicieron y cómo, la total normalidad con la que ellos deben manejar la brutalidad aplicada al cuerpo humano, que para ellos debe estar privado de cualquier referente emocional. Nada más intimidante que tener la certeza que los malos son los que llevan uniforme, los que se supone están para protegerte.

My dear friend, I've read your story and the other articles you linked in this post. I did not know what to comment. A simply "well done" or "great job" seemed inappropriate.
After seeing what the "personal loss" meant... I was speechless. And sad, very sad. An entire life cut off in an instance. You were all robbed by something so precious and unique.
No matter what I'd say won't make you feel any better. But hopefully, in time, the pain will not be so overwhelming. However, the memory will remain.
I'm thinking of you and your sister (as a mother I can tell you that a part of her heart is gone forever). It's not much but I hope it will comfort you knowing you are not alone.
Regarding the story, it is a very powerful one. With deep meanings. I will say a "well done" although I would have preferred to read a pure fiction instead of something based on real facts. 😢

Very well said, @roxy-cat. I had the same experience. I found myself following a trail of posts and happenings that are heart breaking and so horrible, it seems impossible that this stuff happens in a modern society. Like you, my heart goes out to @hlezama and his family.
@hlezama, I read this a few days ago and fully intended to comment! But then I started tracing back to the referenced events and read your past posts instead. OMG. Anyway, I will admit that I'm not quite sure what happens in this story. But my belief is that it is indicating that a murder was blamed on a suicide. Am I right?
Hi, @jayna. Yes. That's what happens. I was trying to depict the scene that led to the death of the prisoner. Even though we do not knwo for sure what happen, based on so many accounts of similar murky deaths of prisoners and the history of torture, as narrated by those who have been able to live to tell the story, we can picture very twisted minds playing with life as it were a casual bet.
