An interesting (even if small) note on Richard Kelly's cult classic.

Yes, Patrick Swayze was an awesome team player during production.

Yes, Jason Schwartzman was considered for the main character role.

Even more interesting though is that Kelly intentionally added a line that noted that Donnie was on a placebo pill, not an actual medication. This line was removed in the theatrical edit but added back into the director's cut.

Kelly still feels this is the reality of the theatrical cut, the reality of the film, even if this line of dialogue was removed.

In 1988 marketing of pharmaceuticals to children was ramped up. Kelly was commenting on this.

Regardless, it is an interesting note and an interesting film.
