Plot

Paul is a writer in decline who one day picks up a traveler and offers to stay with him at home. But the stranger decides to take Paul as a hostage and forces him to write his experiences in the house, taking him to extreme situations, to try to get him out of his creative block.

Opinion

The film tells the story of Paul, like the protagonist of Misery, but it is not the only thing that has in common with the character of the work written by Stephen King, but also a writer, however, one in decline, he is dedicated to drinking and can not write anything, which forces him to sell his house, so he contacts Laura, his realtor, with whom he decides to have a meeting.

On the road Paul has an incident with a truck driver who leaves behind, however, while chatting with Laura while having a coffee, the truck driver appears and decides to disturb Paul, but before anything could happen, Jack, a stranger, intervenes and use force with the truck driver and take him outside.

Minutes later Paul decides to give a ride to Jack as a token of gratitude, and when discovers that he is a traveler, decides to let him spend the night in his house for a day, however, Jack takes liberties and invites himself to stay at home, something that Paul does not oppose primarily out of courtesy. However, slowly things start to get complicated when Paul, worried about the behavior of his guest, decides to rummage through his things and discover what Jack hides.

What the viewer witnessed during the course of this film is the fruit of putting Misery; A Perfect Getaway; Inception and White Bear, the episode of Black Mirror, in a blender. The film has two twists in the plot that leave the viewer completely disoriented, and that are quite inorganic in the development, but not in the conclusion.

The technical quality of the film is not very high, the best of the film is the initial 40 minutes, then it has about 30 minutes of adrenaline and action, and finally a very embarrassing 20 final minutes, which not only destroy the rhythm of the film but wiht totally disconnect the viewer from any notion of credibility, and although everything makes sense at the end, it does not alter the fact that the development of this last stage of the film was poorly done, mainly by the director.

The direction work is in a range between regular and decadent, the script is regular, the performances are empty, and the overall result is uniform.

Score

4/10

It kept me curious for a few minutes, wishing to know what would happen, and then everything just fell apart, I feel that the movie was a disappointment for me. I would not recommend it, however, if you are in Argentina, United States or Canada, you can find it in the Netflix catalog at the time this review is published.
