In the same way that Inglourious Basterds relied on an old 1978 war movie to rewrite the history of World War II, Tarantino now draws inspiration from the classic spaghetti western Django (1966) to explore America's dark past about slavery, openly exposing his savage brutality and, yes, also to perpetrate retroactive revenge. Superficially, Django Unchained is a western covered by popular culture, but with a vast subterranean quarry that invites to rummage.

Plot

The story of this film is set in the South of the United States, two years before the Civil War broke out. Dr. King Schultz is a bounty hunter of German origin who follows in the footsteps of murderers known as the Brittle brothers. To achieve his goal he seeks the help of a slave named Django, who is the one who can identify the murderers. So Schultz buys Django promising to let him be free once they've captured the Brittle, alive or dead.

Opinion

From the beginning we can perceive the soul of this film, the characters are very well described, everything is harmoniously armed, counted and marked. After this movie, no one will be able to forget the carriage with a giant tooth on the ceiling or the iconic image of seeing Django elegantly dressed in blue.

Of course, being a film made by Tarantino, his blood scenes are quite exaggerated, since they are his particular stamp. You can also recognize the style of film classics when they pose scenes with quick approaches to the face of a character to show moments of extreme surprise.

We are facing a very prominent film. A film that we could say that is clearly divided into three parts: A first part in which Django and Schultz capture criminals in South Texas. A second part that includes the descent to hell of Candyland. And, finally, a third part that is the final outcome. A film that lasts 165 minutes, but that is quickly visualized. When I finished watching the movie I did not have the feeling of having been almost three hours watching it. The performances of the five main actors are excellent.

In the name Django, the "D" is silent, but the movie that stars this slave turned into a bounty hunter, is the opposite. Tarantino can be many things (cocky, genius, audacious), but the term "silent" has never been used to describe him or his brilliant work. In this film, words have more power than bullets, although the latter make their fulminating apparition when the former do not obtain results.

The journey of this duo acquires Homeric qualities in the great script of Tarantino, facing different obstacles while going from mission to mission that serve to reveal details of his character and develop the characters. Humor can never be lacking in the text, so the comedy becomes more uncomfortable as the film progresses, but it is always present as an escape valve.
