Plot

When a group of thieves rob the house of a depressed woman, she decides to recover her belongings with her strange neighbor.

Opinion

The film basically tells the Ruth Kimke story, a woman who works as a nurse and is dissatisfied with her life, which has become a monotonous and boring routine absent from any possibility of the future, however, everything changes when thieves enter her house while she was not there, and they steal her computer and some old silverware that belonged to her grandmother, and because the police do not try to recover her belongings she decides to solve the problem, and her new friend Tony, who is a little crazy, is willing to help her.

I could say that the film tells us an original and moderately entertaining story, personally I did not like it very much, and I got bored occasionally while watching it, at all times I felt that what I was seeing was not organic enough, although the ingredients to make a better movie were there, the way they were cooked I did not like it, since everything seemed a bit unlikely.

The best thing about the film is the work of the main actors, Melanie Lynskey, whom I think I have only seen before in Two and a Half Men, she does an excellent job, I never thought to see a movie in which she is the protagonist, and does not it does not bad at all. Elijah Wood plays a very peculiar and strange character, but sincere and a little charismatic. The rest of the actors do a job that we could consider relatively acceptable.

The direction is acceptable, although I would not say it is good or excellent, it is not bad considering that it is director Macon Blair's first film, but any viewer may notice that he needs to polish his work, both as director and scriptwriter.

In conclusion, I think it's a movie that is good, something fresh, and that it can possibly entertain the average viewer, but personally I did not like it very much.

Acceptable direction, original but insufficient script, good main performances and not very good secondary performances. At the moment of publishing this review the film is available in the Netflix catalog.

Nice review. I can see why some people might not like the movie all that much. It was a bit slow as well as the reasons you mentioned. I actually quite liked it though. Mostly because I found the ending to be unexpected. I remember thinking "whoa this movie really took a turn." Lol

Thanks! It's not a bad movie, maybe I just did not see it at the right moment. I'll probably change my perspective when I see it a second time.
