Year: 1962
Category: Epic, Historical Drama.
Director: David Lean.
Cast: Peter O'Toole, Alec Guinness, Anthony Quinn, Jack Hawkins, José Ferrer, Anthony Quayle, Claude Rains, Arthur Kennedy, Omar Sharif.

Plot

The film shows the experience of Lawrence in the Arabian Peninsula during the First World War in his fight against the Turks and the conformation of the Arab National Council.

Opinion

The first thing we see on screen is when in 1935, Lawrence, the protagonist, has a motorcycle accident and dies, immediately the film moves to St Paul's Cathedral, where a reporter tries to get, from those who knew him, some comments about this fabulous man.

Soon the fim goes back at the moment before Lawrence will begin his adventure in the desert, in a scenario where the First World War was being developed, where Lawrence is a misfit British Army lieutenant, and is sent to study the Prince Faisal's possibilities to defeat the Turks.

From that moment, Lawrence will be submerged in the desert, in the customs of the people who inhabit it, minimized by the magnanimity of the dunes, riding a camel, hit by the sun's rays and the strong sand blizzards, submerged before the implacability of the night in that desert zone and so hostile to life, fighting for the natives even more zealously than themselves, adapting to the customs of the Arabs, and fighting to maintain a united front against the Turks and not divided by small and deep-rooted differences between tribes.

Lawrence, without following orders from anyone other than his own intuition, ends up doing great things, it becomes a blessing for some and a curse for others, until reaching a point where it is possible that he overvalues his own abilities and the myth that has built around himself, so he will slowly lose his sobriety.

The film is a great journey, an epic travel in the desert that tries to describe what was the experiences and actions of TE Lawrence, beautifully narrated and firmly directed by David Lean, who does a magnificent job playing with great open shots that reflect the impetuosity and imposition of the desert.

The performances are very good, highlighting the work done by Peter O'Toole as Lawrence, which covers most of the time on screen, although when the film needs to be smeared from it for a few minutes, it does so, and in a good way, because the rest of the actors also achieve a very solid performance, such as Omar Sharif, Alec Guinness and others.

A film with very good moments, and that if as a spectator you get to immerse yourself in the story you will get to enjoy a fantastic 222-minute journey.
