Premium Rush (Film): Review.

in #film5 years ago (edited)

Today I decided to talk about a simple movie, which serves as a mere instrument of entertainment, something to see tomorrow, which is Sunday. It has the performance of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Shannon, it's a fast, entertaining and dynamic film, so I'll talk a little about it and maybe someone will be encouraged to give it a chance when I have some free time.

Year: 2012
Category: Action-Thriller.
Director: David Koepp.
Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Shannon, Dania Ramirez, Jamie Chung.

Plot

Wilee, the best of New York's bike messengers, is about to face some of the greatest dangers of his life, when his last delivery of the day turns into a dangerous chase through the streets of Manhattan.

Opinion

The plot of the film is simple, which is favorable for the narrative proposed by the director and the writers. Thanks to the particular characteristics of the film, long sequences and extensive dialogues are not necessary. The spectator knows everything he needs to know while the film moves quickly, as fast as the cyclists move, and if they stop, the film stops, and when they advance the film also does it, that's it. Thanks to that, the persecutions and action scenes are so numerous that they make up almost the entirety of the film.

It can be perceived that the film was made without pretending to be something more than a mere element of entertainment, so they do not mind introducing, in different moments of the film, humorous scenes, like the bicycle police who chases the protagonists every time the plot needs it, almost as if we were talking about cartoons.

We can not look for depth in the characters or a complicated story, because we will not find it here. The performances are regular, nothing that stands out, but you can not demand much from the actors, because there are not many complications in any of this, the plot is simple, the characters too, and this time it is good that it is so.

Perhaps the most elaborated in the film, is that it does not develop chronologically, but begins at the end, and is through several flashback, aided by a clock superimposed on the screen, which the viewer understands how everything fits, what is the relationship between the characters, and why all this is happening.

I should also mention that the film has many scenes that are filmed in first person, which makes the scenes of persecutions in the city have an immersive capacity good enough to spread the emotion to the viewer. Nothing is fake or made with visual effects, the actors really slip through the heavy traffic of New York exposed on their bicycles, and although they use doubles, you feel the difference between the green screen and reality.

The biggest problem with the film lies in the roles of the secondary characters, who are practically repetitive characters that we have seen many times before, that is, the protagonist's girl, the competitor friend, the honest policeman who tries to capture him, and the girl who is in trouble. For the rest, I would only have to say that the outcome can be very predictable, there is no surprise turn, however, the film has a very short duration, which makes it easy to see, because it does not become heavy.

Score

6/10

Everything in the film happens so fast, that it does not give the spectator time to analyze anything, only to digest. It's the kind of movie that when someone asks you about it, you say it's good, but you can not answer why.
