This movie was created based on an original screenplay written by Aaron Guzikowski, who since 2009 were trying to turn it into a movie. Bryan Singer and Antoine Fuqua were the first candidates to direct the film, nevertheless Denis Villeneuve was the one who directed it finally. Actors such as Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio were interested in embodying the protagonists of this story, and although Wahlberg ended up being executive producer, ultimately the main roles were played by Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal. Finally, in 2013 the film premiered, and it was a success.

Plot

Keller Dover faces a father's worst nightmare. Anna, her six-year-old daughter, has disappeared, along with her friend Joy, and as the minutes turn into hours, she panics. The only clue: an RV that was previously parked on his street. Detective Loki directs the investigation, who arrests the driver of the RV, Alex Jones, but the lack of evidence forces him to give him back his freedom. Although the police follow multiple tracks, the pressure is increasing when they know that their daughter's life is at stake. The desperate Dover decides that he has no choice but to deal with the matter personally, but how far is this desperate father willing to go to protect his family?

What would you be able to do if your son or daughter disappears? It is a subject that nobody responds with honesty because we are all willing to do even the impossible, which admits unnatural acts that are not typical. Prisoners is a film that portrays this act. He uses it as a detonator for an incredible plot that feels like suspense but it's just a drama.

In the film we have two families that one day suffer the abduction of two daughters. The suspect of the crime is mentally ill. Everything indicates that this person is responsible because there is no one else who seems to be capable of kidnapping the girls, but the lack of corpses and the lack of evidence make it difficult to convict him for the crime. A father decides to take justice into his own hands and a policeman must find the truth about what really happened.

The loss of faith. The human despair The violence that is born with everyone. They are three elements that nourish an excellent script, an exhaustive and clearly obscure study of the human species when the not necessarily beautiful routine of a family is broken.

Many could classify the film as an aggressive proposal and manipulated by the writer who wants to cause shock. And it is not a lie. Prisoners is that kind of movie, it's a thriller but it's also a perfectly executed drama. The main reason why I am sure this is affirmed is that the film never focuses on a general point, it always shows everything from its two main characters. If they analyze well, there are not as many turns as it seems; it is the perception of a character with whom we have identified what allows us to feel that violent whirlwind of emotions and say, "if I had been there, I would have done the same".

Denis Villeneuve directs with precision a film that depends absolutely on the capacity of his actors. Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal play one of their best roles in their careers as father and police respectively. Jackman looks like a pressure cooker about to explode at all times. But Gyllenhaal is the one who breaks the mold to which we are accustomed and perplexes us with his extraordinary interpretation of a character that is not necessarily innovative. But we have never identified so much with a policeman; The closeness felt by the viewer with this character is natural.

The director does not leave spaces for the probability of the emotion of the moment and always subjects his characters to suffering. The spectator witnesses the complete transformation of a human to a monster by feeling the purest act of love. It is not easy to stop wondering who are the true prisoners of the film: whether the girls, or the suspect, or the policeman who must break the typical scheme to find the truth, or the father who must think the worst in order to save his daughter.

The film lasts 156 minutes where the script builds, piece by piece, an intense drama, disturbing and, even terrifying, about parents who will cross all legal and moral limits in order to find their daughters, policemen who they observe the drama with professionalism but without humanity, individuals guilty for their innocence and criminals who take refuge in their evil and in God as justification of their actions.
