Synopsis: After the arrest of a soviet spy an insurance lawyer is tasked to defend him. But the spy was convicted anyway but the lawyer persuades the judge to spare him from the death penalty. After some times passes a CIA operative when piloting a spy jet is shot down behind enemy lines . This opens up an opportunity to exchange prisoners and the insurance lawyer attempts to make the exchange happen so that the soviet spy who was fulfilling his duty to his country can return home.

Review: Steven Spielberg is famous for his overly enthusiastic dramatization of films he directs. Like BFG, War of the Worlds , Saving Private Ryan Etc and many other works which won or was nominated for Academy Awards Bridge of Spies followed the same path.
Mark Rylance a name almost common in Spielbergs movies played the character of Rudolf Abel a Russian spy who served his country for decades and gets caught at the twilight of his career.

James B. Donovan played by Tom Hanks is a stubborn righteous civilian insurance lawyer who is blindsided by his humane empathy for Rudolf Abel in a good way. He when hearing that a Homeland spy plane was shot down and the pilot was caught finds a shining light of hope to send Abel to his country and almost singlehandedly transpires the prisoner exchange. This agonizingly slow but meaningful overly exaggerate dramatization is Spielbergs signature in his works which is appealing to Spielbergs very own selective fan base. Others will watch the movie like a thai soup, not so tastey until you find a piece of mushroom.
But Mark Rylance because of his wonderful acting landed an Oscar after many nominations for his other portrayals. His reduced full of wisdom voice took film goers to a memory lane filled with similar mementos with their close ones creating sympathy for the character. You will find yourself rooting for the character like you root for you favorite soccer players in tournaments.
Until the very end of the movie you will feel various tide of emotions and at the end you will come out of the theater with a satisfactory smile in the corner of your lips.

you should if you like war drama..and spielbergs any movie is a must for any movie enthusiast.. there is always a unique aspect in any movie he directs..for example his recent work (Ready Player One).
