Hoist the colours, proud story-tellers!

Welcome fellow chasers of the prize, more precious than a green stone. Many of us pursued her, and most of us caught her, although at least one contender got waylaid with beer and pizza - easily done. Glad to see we all picked up the rum, staggered to the mess hall, and got stuck in. Still @calluna here, attempting to fill the rather interesting shaped void left by our great banana whisperer @f3nix. We had a very enticing opening this round, a huge thank you to @tristancarax for such an inspirational kick off to 2019. It was a tricky one to wrap up in 500 words, and we had a whole host of fin-nibbling cliff hangers. Some fantastic endings, of magic, suspense, fantasy, witches, mayhem, shootings, drugs, my word, we had a fantastic spread to offer the great banana fish this week!

What's boiling in the bananafish kitchen (the news!)

..And the winners of this potassium laced edition are:

  • GRAND PRIZE - 5 STEEM: @agmoore
An immersive tale, sinking into the depths of the gritty noir opened with, this ending maintains the character traits from the first half, and instead of following the trail in the letter, grows the story around the people in it. There is suspense and drama, intrigue and mystery, and the tone of the first half carries through so well. The stylistic choices in language create a pace that adds tension, and the story flows from a dark tale of crime, to the story of life, picking up deeper meaning along the way as Belinda becomes the unattainable thing just out of reach, that everyone chases.
  • SECOND PRIZE - 3 STEEM: @dirge
Dirge brings up a stonking cliff hanger with his ending - picking up the threads from the first half to weave such a strong ending. The story flows beautifully to its cliff hanger ending, creating characters with depth and personality, the inklings of a cult, this builds so much of the first half, and feels like a natural progression of the opening.

  • THIRD PRIZE - 2 STEEM: @michaias
It was very hard to make the final pick, but in the end, this tale that meanders far from the beaten path, had to make it. With a true skill, @michaias side steps all of the obvious pick up points in the first half, and delves into the character, creating a complete feeling ending, even decoding the letter, whilst telling a very different story.

  • BEST COMMENT - 2 SBI: @theironfelix
As always, our very own ironfelix leaves such wonderful comments across the board <3, and it's not for the prize or the glory, that's just who they are, but they were not alone. So that said, going to risk some @bananafish wrath and put up two extra prizes for comments from @calluna
    1 SBI: @oliviackl
We have a newcomers for the prize this week, the depth and consideration of the comment left by @oliviackl on @michaias showed a great deal of reflection and empathy
    1SBI: @agmoore
theironfelix had a real run for the money here, and the poetry of @agmoore's comments really pushed the boat out into that fruit-salad ocean, with lines like "The words do flow from you. It's like a river of impressions tied together with a concept."

  • POPULAR VOTE - 2 SBI: @dirge
This story was such an easy one to read and enjoy, no wonder everyone loved it!

Sort:

When I admire such a glorious fiction party by @calluna, think about the previous editions brilliantly carried out by @brisby, enjoy the terrific noir written by @agmoore, foretaste the amazing story that awaits all of us during the edition #42 by @gaby-crb... When I see all this displaying in front of me like a whole shamanic vision, the only thing that jumps to my mind is:

Who run the world.. Girls!

tumblr_ma3xrfUrIn1rri2t4o5_250.gif

Nooo you guys totally run the world

shit ladies, he is catching on to the hidden agenda :p

😂 Quick! Distract him with cat gifs's!

Just figuring this out now? LOL! Thanks for the compliments, F3nix and I have to say that if it wasn't for a good balance of terrific men and women (like those in the Tribe 😉) , life wouldn't be half as fun.

Yin and Yang, Bris! Yes very diplomatic... your attempts to be wise and divert from your hidden agenda failed! hahah :-PpP

Congrats to all the winners-n-entryists, I wonder when I’ll win the contest properly when everybody is so wowed by every other author.

I had no idea there was so much! You may regret me finding this <3

I got a lot and I’ve curated an Ashley Fan Discord for their art. Trust me, I know ;^

I am surprised, and gratified. People really took this story away. An amazing array of original ideas from an extraordinarily original prompt. Thank you for the prize. I'm especially grateful for the acknowledgment of my comment about @theironfelix. I think everyone here would recognize him from my description. He is a force of nature.
Thanks again. It was a great round.

You honor this contest through your quality. Cheers!

Thank you very much @bananafish. This really caught me in surprise. Didn't aware that there were awards on best comment. I always love to read but bad in writing 😜. So i always admire writers on writing some interesting story for readers like me to read. That‘s why i love to put in some of my encouraged words to writers on their love and passionate about story writing.

You're a kind cool person and we would love to read and comment you too, one day 😁

We would love to have you join in! 🤗

honored as always y'all. happy to read this coming home from the workday. cheers

The honor is all ours!

You all are awesome. Thank you, @bananafish and congratulations to all the winners!

[Off topic] Mich you want to write some QITR episodes, don't you? You're awesome too, also if you don't appreciate reproduction through spores.

Strongly anti-spore reproduction, although I love mushrooms on pizza. What do you mean by "cognitive dissonance"?

But yes I would love to help with QITR.

Uhm, I'm experiencing some cognitive dissonance in trying to understand your question about cognitive dissonance. It would be a good title for a novel though.

congrats to all the winners.

I try to understand what you are writing about, but it beats me. I think the kind of English you speak is too difficult for me :(

@wakeupkitty don't worry about that .. I, the Bananafish/FtS founder, am a non-native speaker. My dream, and the one of every core member, is to create an inclusive community where we all have fun and practice our creativity. Noone will judge you, try to believe 😉

If you are not able to understand what people talk about there is no way to join

Hi, a former teacher here who is ages older than most of the writers in the contest. I'm sure my life experience is quite different from theirs and sometimes I scratch my head and think, "Where will I begin?" But every week I come back and look for a thread that will connect me to the prompt. Sometimes I don't find it. What I do find is a collection of authors who write with enthusiasm and a sense of community.
Please don't worry about matching what you read. About adopting the voice of the prompt. If you choose to participate, write what you feel, what makes sense to you. I think you'll find if you do that here, you will network with good writers who encourage and share.
There is really nothing to lose. If I see your piece on finish the story, I promise to upvote and comment, no matter what. I think we can only grow as writers by trying new waters.
Forgive me if this seems presumptuous. Teachers grow old, but they never give up :)

It is not about losing anything but about not understanding what is written, what is ask. I do not know about the age of most people here but I am not a teenager and als not in my thirties either.
