Finish The Story Contest - WEEK #24

in #finishthestory6 years ago

hello this is my entrance ticket for the contest, a strong hug to the whole community in general and to the other participants.

The Town That Changed

Change blew in on the air that morning, whispering through a sleeping town. An eerie quiet rested along the main road, early commuters not yet disturbing the grey dawn. A wisp of waning moon, brushed pink with the gentle glow of the coming sun, hung low in the ombre sky.

A subtle shift rocked the heavy foliage of scattered trees, rippling between the houses. The cool silence of night still clung to the shadows. A lone ginger cat stalked between the sentinels of bins guarding the curbs. It paused, hair bristling along it’s back as it sensed a disturbance rushing past.

A lone mournful howl echoed in the streets, erupting into a sorrowful symphony as others took up the canine call.

Not a single harsh bark interrupted the lament that awoke the town that morning.

Back doors opened onto gardens, not quite the same. Concerned residents in an array of dressing gowns, coats and slippers, padded outside to find the same, inexplicable sight.

Theo hadn’t been home in months. He had told his mum he was getting clean. It was a lie. He hadn’t been clean in years.

The dark country road snaked before him, a twisting river of retreating night. She had insisted he came home for the wedding. Theo couldn’t stand her boyfriend, but his mum had half chewed his ear off over it, and he couldn’t deny, he owed her this.

He swore under his breath. The rising itch was dancing across his skin. The hard edge cutting inside him. He needed another hit. He had been driving since 1am, he loaded up before he set off, but the ragged scraping of the comedown was consuming.

He glanced at the road, he hadn’t passed another car in hours, and he knew these twisting roads.

One hand on the wheel, he fumbled through the bag on the passenger seat. He couldn’t face that c*nt sober, Aunt Hazel would help.

His skin flushed with the intense bliss coursing through his veins as he approached the sleeping streets.

Dawn was pushing towards the horizon, her soft pink glow catching the clipped moon.

Theo was speeding when he got to the town. He heard the hair-raising call of neighbourhood dogs, raising their cry as one.

Then he saw it. The change. He couldn’t look away. He didn’t see the tree.

CONTINUATION ... MY ENTRY:

And inevitably impact the car against him, listening to the sound of the horn caused by sticking his face a little bloody on the steering wheel; he is unconscious for a while, a little stunned by the shock. But what he was about to witness was going to surprise one more, that even the dawn, it would happen for such a fact in his mind would like to continue on his trip for the drug but the reality is different; At first he saw it was a cloudscape of several people walking in an inverse manner, still thinking that it was part of his typical hallucinations because of the punctures that usually occur, in that moment he reacts clear a little slow but he does recover slowly by sustaining what remains of the car, he looks out to witness what is happening and a group of five young people come with bags and camping devices, and are intercepted by these other people who in their opinion are not normal at all with their walk in reverse and full of blood; these innocent young people are thrown over what was about to happen to them, in the midst of screaming and struggling this species bites three of them in the neck and manages to escape 2 among those who remained a frightened girl and boy and in between of shock, going through Theo's side.

Theo without any other option runs after the boys fleeing along with them to shelter in a safe place but the distrustful and frightened kids ask Theo to leave by threatening him with a lumberjack ax, but Theo manages to convince them that he is not one of them. they and Gina, one of the young people, asks him why his eyes are wide and they are pale and, denying his drug addiction, confesses that it was because of the accident.

The important thing is that we hide and try to support each other and try to survive and try to know what is happening, since it is not normal, in the distance you can still hear screams and strange noises.

Robert, who is another boy says that he agrees but if he tries to betray them or hurt him he will kill him with the ax; Theo tells them that they do not have to worry that he is on their side and they have to stay together and united.

when they have been in the woods for a while; they manage to see an army convoy and others with a uniform nothing unusual, with a mask and special suits, as when there are epidemics or biological attacks but the scared girl decides to run towards them and they are alarmed and stop and inform her that the city is in quarantine until further notice and you have to accompany them because you may be infected between screaming and kicking; Theo and Robert decide to flee and the guards shoot him but they can not hurt or stop them.

Theo convinces Robert to go back to the car and go for a weapon he has in the glove compartment to defend himself; they already know that they are at the mercy of a powerful toxin that is in the air and that transforms the attitude of the human being turning them into a species of Zombies; and humanity will not be the same after this epidemic you voracious and destructive continuous struggle and survival will depend on you not caught one of these zombies.

Thrilling finish @opiman!

thank you, I managed to give that touch

A good horror twist, and the drowsy town becomes like Raccoon City!

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

Ok, this one is not bad, in the end

I was thinking the same thing and this was one of the paths I wanted to take but use Silent Hill as inspiration of having nightmarish entities that seem to be borne from his drug addled mind.

yes friend, I had several inspirations of that kind for this end

Really nice story! I need to add some visuals in my next entry! Good luck!

Thank you for your quotation, and if you try it is good to place two images.

Did I bore witness to a raccoon-city style scenario?

It would be good if you told me that story

Oo some nice zombie action, you work your way up to the ultimate reveal !

thanks, @calluna I appreciate your comment

I can imagine the twist at the end being the premise for an entire series! Nice!

thanks, @ediblecthulhu for your point of view, and for a series would be great

George Romero would be happy! Bravo @opiman for an unexpected development.

thanks, @f3nix for reading my friend it is a pleasure for me to participate and share with you
