Horrible etiquette ruining my local gym

in #fitness5 years ago

After 6 weeks of just doing whatever the hell i want on vacation and not exercising at all, I was ready to get back in the gym upon returning to Thailand. I am in a different city (albeit close to my old one) and joined a new and quite cheap gym. I had been told there is a lot of new equipment and that although small, it gets the job done.

This is true, but a few horrible people are ruining it for everyone and I don't understand how people can behave this way and not realize that it is bad form.

I mean just look at that. There shouldn't NEED to be a sign, but in this particular instance there already is one, lots of them actually telling people that they need to re-rack their weights. I ALWAYS re-rack my weights but where to even start with this mess?

I'm looking around this gym and i notice that people have (completely unnecessarily) brought a single dumbbell out of the dumbell area for some poorly executed exercise. Then, as expected, they leave the dumbbell over there. I was just trying to do a set of curls but couldn't even find the weights half the time because a selfish prick thinks that their butler works here.

This isn't even a big place, as you can see, and that is likely part of the reason why it only costs about $25 a month for a membership here.

I was only there for an hour but there was several people there that I think embody the worst possible people that can ruin a gym for anyone.

  1. There was a "grunter" there. I am of the school of thought that unless you are in a powerhouse gym the likes of which are only frequented by Lou Ferrigno types if you have to grunt or scream in order to finish a set, maybe, just maybe step it back a notch or two. You look like a douchebag and you negatively impact everyone else's workout

  2. There was at least 3 guys who didn't re-rack anything. I mean anything. They would use a squat machine with 20kg plates and then just leave them on the machine when they are done. This isn't a big deal for me because I have very little trouble lifting 20kg, but what about someone smaller? Now you have made their workout impossible and you are a jerk.

  3. There was a guy doing calisthenics right under one of the most popular machines in the gym. I mean, why did you even come here? You can do pushups in your living room pal, this is just dumb. If you are going to do this in a gym, which is a level of stupidity that defies all logic, do it out of the way or barring that, not next to one of the most frequently used machines in the entire building.

  4. There were multiple guys (the same ones that don't re-rack anything) that took 10-minute breaks between sets to check out all manor of social media on their phones. There are only 2 benches in the already chaotic barbell section, and two of these jackalopes had both of them.

I think that in order to maintain my sanity I will have to find out when these goons come to the gym and intentionally position my gym time for when they are not there.

If you, or anyone you know, does these things at the gym I want them to know that nobody admires you. Quite the opposite actually. The other patrons of the gym loathe you.

Sort:

Agree so much with what you are saying. When I see someone not re-rack their weights I get so fucking triggered.

I'm really not a violent person but I just imagine myself getting the weight that is not racked and hitting the guy that used it the head with it. That seems to calm me down a little. :D

But I mean, come on, brother it's such a simple thing to do. Just put the iron thingy from where you took it. It's not hard. Don't be a fucking cunt. Other people don't have to do your job.

i feel as though my warm-up at this new gym will be re-racking all the weights. I think that since i am so much bigger than the average asian that i will rack the extremely heavy ones in the most popular places.

Hehe. Sametimes people come to the gym and shot many poctures (instagram trend😃) I dont like this gym. I like where we work hard 😀

marvellous, you have Exposed my thinking @gooddream. its happens in almost every gym. we can stop it, if we start taking fines from them. i do not like such type of people. today you talk about ''talk to reality'', i like it. its our theme. go ahead @gooddream.

Out of all my years in fitness. All the time that I have gone to a cheap priced gym.Come a huge weight disorganization. All the dumbbells are on the floor. Now when you go to a premium gym. "higher price" The equipment is most of the time organized and in top shape. The majority of the members are better at working out, because the take their training more serious, and they need to have a serious gym to work out good. Plus when you pay more. The gym can higher better staff. You get for what you pay for.

you are correct. In higher end gyms they would have staff to re-rack for the a-holes that refuse to do it also. I have just determined that my warm up is re-racking all the weights when i get there :)

Actually i have not been to a gym before but i have always look at it in the t.v. i guess you must have some big chest then

That's what I hate, "lack of discipline" .
This type of careless people who are out of mind should be banned from gym.

I agree with you that he can do push ups at home.

I did join gym many times but I follow rules always.
I re-rack thing.
