Plentiful Peony Flowers

Peony Flowers

Peonies flowers are large, and perfect for the petal lovers because there are many on each flower. Can you imagine a flower measuring up to 10" in diameter? That is how big a peony flower can be. You can find them in many colors and I have photos of three different colors to show you.

Peony buds are filled with sweet nectar which ants love, as much as peonies love ants. With every ant that climbs into the bud, they help it to open. Ants also keep the insects away that would be harmful to them.

Peonies also love northern climates because the cold, winter weather is what helps them to produce flowers in the spring.

Peonies originated in Asia and Europe. In China, peonies are called, "the king of flowers," and they are the symbol of peace, stability, luck and wealth. Peonies are also popular in Chinese art.

In the language of flowers, peonies signify "romance, elegance, honor, wealth and abundance."

These must be super, hardy plants because they can live to be over 100 years old. I think that part of the secret to its longevity is that these plants grow brand new stalks every spring. I sure would love to replace my stalk every year!

When the flowers die, the peony plant produces seed heads. You can use the seeds to grow more plants.

Thanks for looking!
