Cyprus Vegetation

in #flowerphotography5 years ago (edited)

Today I will show you pictures of a single plant growing in Cyprus.

I took these photos while walking.
This plant is called Asphodelus ramosus.
He has very simple little flowers, but they caught my attention.

Asphodelus ramosus is a tall plant up to 80 cm.
Root geofit.
They say that at the beginning of winter, when the roots are thin and white, you can eat them, but I did not do this! :-))
In the flower of Asphodelus ramosus there is a lot of nectar, the bees appreciate this abundance :-))

It is very interesting that the asphodel flower changes its gender.
The flower that opens in the evening is a female flower, and in the morning it becomes a male flower. The flower lives only 1 day.
Asphodelus ramosus blooms from January to May.

wow this was such an interesting plant to read about! They are so special considering their flowers only last a day. Great post.

Thank you very much!!!

I see this plant very often, but I did not know anything about it. Thanks for the information and beautiful photos.

And thank you!
I forgot to write that animals do not eat this plant.
Because on the flowers there are small spines that affect the soft tissues of animals.

Very interesting plants. They must come from other planets!! Live only one day and can change their sexes!!
