Oh what a night! Absolutely fantastic!

Last night was Adelaide's 'one night only' chance to see the "One Size Fits All" comedy tour, and we made sure that
Gabriel Iglesias, from now on referred to as 'Fluffy', wasn't going to forget the us in a hurry. In fact, we didn't want him to leave: Video Of Adelaide Chanting 'Fluffy'

He's called Fluffy because of a sketch show where he proudly proclaimed that he "wasn't fat, he was fluffy", and the name has stuck ever since.

Getting There

We managed to get there early, but the queue to get into the Thebarton Theatre was already around the block. We found a spot to park just up the street and proceeded to line up in the queue. Luckily though, we were early enough that the queue was moving steadily enough that we didn't have to wait long before our tickets were scanned and we could head inside.
We even saw a larger gentleman in the queue who was wearing Fluffy's trademark Hawai'ian shirt. The theatre was crowded to the point that staff were directing people to different locations, including the restrooms.

We also had a heavily pregnant woman with us, so we wanted to keep any walking to a minimum (she had two short contractions during the show, so maybe three weeks to go...?).

The Support Act

We soon found our seats, and made jokes with the people sitting beside us. On the stage was slide show of facts and figures about Fluffy, so that we knew that we are in for a great night before anything has been said.

Every comedy show will either have a support act or a warm up person. The warm up person sets the mood, figuratively 'warming up' the audience. This show was initiated by Alfred Robles, the support act.
We were warned not to heckle, not to film or take photos, etc. otherwise we would have been ejected from the theatre.

This comes into fruition later.

Alfred, like Fluffy, has a Mexican background and kept us entertained with hilarious jokes about his childhood. Many of which were set ups for punchlines at the end of the night. He's definitely one to watch out for because he carried the first half of the show magnificently. "My dad is fine, he's working, he can't get time off!" was one of the recurring jokes that will only make sense once you see the show.

Halfway through the show, there is a 20 minute intermission with a count down timer projected onto the screen. This is crucial because the theatre was filled to capacity and it took that long to get a few drinks from the bar, have a restroom break and to make sure we could sit for the next few hours uninterrupted. We got back with 3 minutes to spare.

FLUFFY

Finally, Fluffy came on stage and was warmly greeted by everyone. He started off with a few familiar jokes to get himself warmed up and to start building a relationship with the crowd.

Once we were all on the same page, he started with a few Mexican / Trump wall jokes, but kept things fairly apolitical throughout the night. Then came the observations of Australian culture and attitudes to various things that, while we would be nonchalant about, would have an American running for the hills in fear.

The reason for the no recording request throughout the night became rather apparent, and necessary when you realise that what was said last night could have been shared to the media and twisted. You see, there is a difference between the usage of the 'c word' between here and America, and while still offensive in some circles here, it's much worse there. There were several jokes around these differences.

Non Stop Clapping

In between bouts of uproarious laughter, and I can bellow really loudly if I am not careful, I was happy and using my empty plastic cup in order to clap without hurting my hands. Your hands will hurt, believe me!.
I was pretty much clapping non stop throughout his show. Absolutely incredible.

The Encore

As part of an encore, and you could tell he'd gone waaaay over time, the crowd had requested this routine by screaming "Mar-teeen!" (Martin) and he came out and started it. The best moment of the night happened next.

He gets to the part where he sings out "Martin", and in unisen, 2000 people scream back "ándale!" and it
stuns him into silence for a few moments, before stopping the show and saying "You guys don't need me!" before continuing the joke. Incredible.

He closed the show by saying "Imagine telling me twenty years ago, that people would be answering my own jokes.... in Australia!". It really was a great night.

My only regret was that we weren't sitting closer, and that the night wasn't recorded for his upcoming Netflix show of the same name "One Show Fits All" set for release on January 29th. Or at least that's what I assume. Fingers crossed though.

Apparently, we bought tickets as soon as the tour was announced because scalpers jumped in and boosted the price after that. We paid $80 each, several months ago and it was exceedingly well worth it.

If you are in Sydney I hope you are enjoying the show. If you are in Perth, try to get tickets if you can for tomorrow's show. It's well worth the money.
