This fearsome critter is localized to the Appalachian region of America. This one, known as the whirling whimpus, is truly fearsome as it is entirely carnivorous, preying on large mammals and humans alike.

The whirling whimpus is a large beast, it is said that some of these creatures are seven feet tall. The details of the appearance of the whirling whimpus are oft debated. Some legends state the creature only has one foot upon which it twirls, other stories say the whimpus has the body and face of a gorilla. Some tales of the critter tell of paddled paws on the whirling whimpus.

What each story of this creature can agree on is it’s method of hunting unwary prey. A hungry whirling whimpus will begin twirling around until it reaches such speeds that the swirling figure is invisible. A twirling whirling whimpus emits a strange droning sound, which passerbys will either inspect or encounter accidentally. When a stray woodsmen or hiker is caught in the whirlwind of the whimpus, the extreme speeds of the spinning creature turn the prey into a syrupy treacle, which the whirling whimpus will then lick its paws in satisfaction.

I have to wonder if the Taz the tasmanian devil from the Looney Tunes cartoons had any inspiration from the whirling whimpus.

there is definitely a similarity, i never even considered that!
