Legendary Foodie Vegan Burger

in #food6 years ago

Well, by now you know that I'm not a legendary foodie. But I am a pretty epic eater, so pretend with me.

A couple of months ago Heart to Heart did a post about Vegan Burgers. I was intrigued, we talked a little, and I promised to try them. Little did I know that it was going to be a while until they were readily available.

They are packaged 2 1/4 pound patties to a box. I'm a big boy and an even bigger eater so I was a little disappointed in the small size. But the show must go on, so I brought them home. Did I mention that Heart to Heart is a really pretty girl and I'm pretty helpless around a pretty girl?

The patties come packaged in a cello inner wrapper, and they look like horribly over ground sausage. No grain or features to them at all. What have I gotten myself into?

See what I mean? At this point I was reminding myself that a really pretty girl asked me to do this and deciding if I really could fall on this grenade.

I decided to pan fry rather than grill because it's a waste to fire up the grill for one burger, and I could keep track of it better here.

Instructions say 3 minutes per side for a frozen patty on medium high heat. Not much sizzle, I have to tell you. I put a little bit of Vegetable oil in the pan to protect it.

At least I had a good bun to put it on, a nice fresh Kaiser from Spouts Bakery.

Meanwhile, I turned the patty and, well, I was uninspired. There was some blackish smutz around it and it wasn't particularly attractive at this point.

This is just about a perfect burger set up for me. If I'd been cooking for others I'd have had slices of tomato and onion but just for me? Mayo and relish on the bottom, horseradish and brown mustard on the top.

The finished patty, not looking too bad. One thing for a fact, there just was no shrinkage so I had a 1/4 finished burger that would be about the same size as a 1/3 pound beef patty.

Ready to chomp. A pretty good looking burger at this point. One more reminder about the pretty girl and banish the thoughts that this is made from peas and beets and I'm on it.

Chomp. Chomp! Hey. This is gooood. Texture is good, it's juicy and tender, and the taste is incredibly good. I mean, this is a real hamburger! Without the ham!

I have to say that this ended up being a very tasty burger. I am duly impressed.

Pros: Good taste, quick, Vegan, takes a lot less water to grow a pound of peas than a pound of beef.

Cons: A little pricey, probably a little more than organic grass fed free range beef. And, well, it's Vegan. Who does that stuff?

Actually, I will. It's a good product, and I'll buy more. Who knew?

Like healthy food? Look no further than the lead Vegan Heart to Heart. Good food and good photographs.
Not so much with the Vegan Food? Princess MewMew is a terrific cook that shares really do able recipes. I've tried several.

I have been looking for a "good" veggie burger for a while because my fiance was a vegetarian for quite a while. I found a few that would pass as a burger but I would not call it good by any means LoL. I will definitely try this out next time I'm at a sprouts, thanks for the honest opinion. :)

Yeah, give it a shot, and tell me what YOU think. It's not like you have to buy 20 pounds to try it. Two patties to the box.

Great! this looks like just like a burger I hope it tasted like one, for the read of it, it did. I'm not a vegan myself but I love burgers maybe I will give them a try.

Thank you for posting your review on the meatless burger!

Until it hit my mouth I was pretty unimpressed. It's juicy and tender and tasty. I'll do it again.

Maybe reading this on an empty stomach was not a good idea LOL, now I have to go and eat something fast because I'm drolling :)

Thanks for stopping by. Sorry to make you hungry :) Or not!

One of our daughters has a dislike for ground beef these days and we have been playing around with a few meatless options for her. So far we haven't found a meatless burger that any of us like but this looks intriguing. We have tried to make some ChickPea burgers with a great deal of success but they can fall apart easily. Thanks for the new option. I will look out for it next time we hit the grocery store.

I recommend it, I really do. I am frankly amazed at how good it was. Even had juice! Next time I'm grilling, though. Maybe it'll look a little more like hamburger there :)

Grated zucchini, grated carrots, lentils and a little mashed potato. An egg if she’s into that 😘 makes a moist, crispy burger!

Dill relish or sweet? I am not sure I could do it. If I was pressured maybe, or if someone threatened my dog... Just kidding. I have had black bean burgers before and although they are not the same thing at all, they were tasty in their own right. It's so infrequent that I have burgers these days that when I get to have one I go beef all the way!

Yeah. That's always the question, isn't it? In this case it was sweet, but my mood can make it be dill pretty easy.

I have burgers real infrequently too, but in this specific case a pretty girl asked and I said yes. Heart to Heart lives in Bali (I know. Tough detail) and can't get most commercial products so I said I would try them.

That makes sense. There is a fantastic burger joint in my state that puts sweet relish on their burgers if you get it with everything. It definitely adds a little something extra to it. I usually only make it to one of the three locations once a year, but it is always fantastic. My wife doesn't like beef or pork so we tend to eat a lot of chicken, but she allows me the occasional indulgence :)

I'm just skirting round the edge of moving from vegetarian to vegan so interesting to read this review.

Not seen this brand though in the UK. What part of the world are you in?

I am from the metropolis of Yuma, AZ, USA. So far as I know this brand was introduced in January and it took until now to get to Yuma. I'm guessing they are on the way, but not real rapidly. Not that Yuma is the geopolitical center of anyplace except Yuma County :)

Ha ha that's so cool @bigtom13

Chomp. Chomp! Hey. This is gooood. Texture is good, it's juicy and tender, and the taste is incredibly good. I mean, this is a real hamburger! Without the ham!

I'm a vegetarian and I was getting ready for the usual meat eaters response to eating a vegan meat alternative, that it's no good cause you just got to have meat. it was refreshing to hear a measured and honest response :-) Thanks for sharing

Ahahahahaha I could give that response to a couple items I have tested :) Let's just say I was skeptical going into this and was pleasantly surprised.

I am not vegetarian, but I have seriously slowed my meat consumption to about two chicken breasts and a Salmon fillet per week. Note the absence of beef and pork. I certainly do.

These things should be a lot cheaper, I'd bet more people would buy them regularly that way. It definitely looks like a real hamburger, the 'meat' is very convincing.

I agree. Understand that it is brand new. I spent two months waiting for them to get to the very cosmopolitan Yuma, Arizona. I'm guessing there is some serious wiggle in the price the day before any real competition hits the stores.

Oh, I love mustard too! I put it on almost everything. That burger looked good. I often find really good vegan recipes and love them to bits!

I don't do ketchup, but I probably have 4 kinds of mustard in the fridge. :)

I'm glad that it turned out to be surprisingly good in your description. Here we have the very popular mushroom burger which I did a post months ago which is absolutely delicious. I guess a lot of vegetables can be turned into a burger with real beefy goodness and taste.

I guess so. I think maybe the changes are coming about because of people like me that want to cut down on the red meat. Honest truth is, I consider this in a restaurant in the right circumstance.
