Ulog #64: Best 'Appam Manis' in Malaysia - Sweet Pancakes
Before we headed back to Kuala Lumpur, we had our last meal in Penang at 'Pulau Tikus'. In my last few posts, I shared of some of the savoury dishes we had and I've been saving the best for last.
This has got to be the best thing I ate during the whole trip and it's one that'll really get you into a happy place. It's the 'Appam Manis' which is like a sweet pancake. Slightly charred on the outside which is a thinner layer and the center which is a fluffy pancake like texture. Absolutely delicious!!!
The 'appam' is cooked on top of a small pan that looks like a mini wok and over charcoals which gives it a very unique flavor to a dessert-type dish. You get 5 pieces of it for only RM4 (1 USD) and it's served over a sheet of banana leaf.
The smell of this expertly prepared pancakes are wonderfully fragrant when it reaches the table. Be careful though coz it's still pipping hot. Although it's difficult to resist diving right into it, wait a couple of seconds at least and then ENJOY!
This place has been open since the 1980's and is still going strong into the next generation. I'm so glad that it's the exact same stall on a push cart that is still there today.
A definite must whenever you visit Penang. This is absolutely amazing!

@danielwong, Good to see this dish and it also hold the natural essence because it is served on leaf and whenever we see additional natural essence with our dish then that makes our food time more enjoyable.
