Which Restaurant Chain Will Be First To Add Lab-Grown Meat Options To Their Menu?

in #food5 years ago

There are a variety of companies that are working on bringing lab-grown meat products to the market and it's suggested that it might not be that long now until we start to see these alternative meat options finally start to show up on market shelves and on restaurant menus.

These companies have been working on making burgers, chicken fingers, chicken nuggets, fish, and a myriad of other meat options that are all being grown from a few cells.

One of the restaurant chains that is moving to introduce alternative meat options onto their list of available items is none other than Hooters.

At the moment, they've got over 400 different Hooters locations around the world and they'll soon be offering alt-meat options thanks to a partnership with Beyond Meat Inc., one of the companies working to bring alt-meat options to market. They've already got their plant-based burgers on the shelves, being sold in both restaurants and in markets now.

At least 50 of the Hooters locations will be starting to offer these alternative food choices on their menus; introducing plant based burgers, thanks to that partnership with Beyond Meat. They suspect that the plant-based burgers could end up representing at least 10 percent of their burger sales or more that are coming from every restaurant under the Chanticleer Holdings umbrella that will introduce them.

They've also announced plans for a cryptocurrency-based rewards program previously as well.

Chanticleer Holdings, is a Charlotte-based company that owns and runs several Hooters franchises and they originally came up with the plan, to offer the first blockchain-based retaurant rewards program.

It will reportedly enable customers to earn cryptocurrency across all of their brands, not just Hooters, and will pay out in "Merits" that customers can then use to make purchases or trade with others etc.

The reason that the Beyond Meat products are coming to Hooters is because Chanticleer Holdings has partnered with Beyond Meat to make it happen.

They say that a large majority people today are identifying as 'flexitarians' and so they want to try and cater to them by offering more options, by adopting this partnership with Beyond Meat.

Given that lab-grown chicken nuggets are already reportedly making their way onto the menus of high-end restaurants, who knows how long it might be before more common venues like Hooters start to adopt the same changes. They certainly won't be able to anytime soon, at least until they can get the price down on the lab-grown products, and even then it's not clear whether people will be willing to embrace that change.

A growing number of restaurant chains are already opting to add plant-based burger options to their menu, like A&W, soon Burger King, and others. Following that trend, we could start to see the same for grown meat choices, they might become more popular in a few years as well.

Beyond Meat recently debuted as a public company and reached a valuation over $3 billion. They are considered a pioneer of this growing plant-based burger movement and are working hard to influence the future of the meat market with protein products that are made from plants.

They are expecting a big shift in consumer appetites in the future, betting on the chance that people will increasingly prefer plant protein on their plate. If you are interested in trying one of their products you could grab a plant-based burger at A&W, now that the restaurant has started serving Beyond Meat options there.

Meat alternatives are flourishing not only thanks to Beyond Meat, but thanks to a variety of other companies too that are currently invested in exploring both plant-based meat products, but also the potential to grow those products in a lab. For those popular restaurants, like Hooters, A&W, and others, which have already made the switch to adopt paper straws and plant-based burgers, they might also be likely to first embrace lab-grown meat as well.
