Tappo Pizza, NYC: Fantastic thin-crust in the big Apple

I decided to take a break from the NY slices to have a look at this gem in the Flatiron district of New York. The traditional slices you get in the cheaper places are definitely a NYC icon, but I wanted to go a little more upmarket for lunch after that horrible museum I had just attended.

In the event that you don't recognize the name "flatiron," perhaps you will recognize the famous building that is the reason why this area is named that. It certainly is a lovely and strange building that is one of the most famous addresses in this city, if not the world.

Just around the corner is a place called Tappo, which is always busy but because we were there at 230pm on a Sunday, it was about as calm as this place ever gets. However, the lower level of customers didn't stop the service from being painfully slow. We were sat for 15 minutes before anyone even brought us water and menus.

However, the food was definitely worth the wait. We went for a 4-cheese pizza with some sort of leafy something or other on top of it that i forgot the name up but am relatively certain it starts with the letter "A."

The pizza was absolutely divine but we did make one mistake and not realize that this was a "white pizza" which means it had no tomato sauce. That didn't stop it from being delicious though and even though there was only 2 of us eating here, we managed to polish of nearly and entire large on our own. We would later learn to regret this decision as we were meeting some friends for a pasta dinner just a few hours later.

I can heartily recommend this place for anyone who happens to be in the city and wants a great pizza in a warm environment. The service was a bit slow so you need to go in there understanding that it is gonna take a while.

One of the best aspects of this place was the fact that it was a pretty good value as well. Our total bill was $30, including the tip (which i think wasn't necessarily warranted given how long we had to wait.) It is also only a block and a half from a major subway station so no matter where you are staying in the city, you will be able to easily reach it.
