EATING BY 2050 – ALL WHAT WE NEED TO BE READY!

The responsible attitude is not only about the eco-friendly cars and waste recycling, but it also should influence the content of your plate!

A group of European searchers prepared a special report in 2017, according to which our habits would become much more responsible and could help in making the climate change step back, this, at one condition: we should start changing our alimentary behavior now.

I was quite pleased to know that my city, Paris, had adopted a special plan on the greenhouse gas reduction up to 0 by 2050 at COP21.

Then, currently being for a weekend in the French Normandy, nearby Rouen (Greetings to all!),

(the region famous for its butter and cheeses (Camembert, Neufchatel)), this morning, I have been getting confused about the anticipation of my future Food posts on Steemit. Here are few reasons..!

DO YOU KNOW THAT...

  • The alimentation represents 1/3 (36%) of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, here you count agriculture, transportation and packaging of your food.

The annual food consumption of 1 Parisian is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 10 Parisians!

  • For an average alimentation of a French,
    52% of all emissions go to the meat, fish and industrially prepared dishes that he/she consumes;
    15% - for fruits and vegetables, also for the industrially prepared vegetarian food;
    15% - for the milk and the diary products;
    10% - for fats and sugar;
    8% - for carbohydrates, including dry fruits.

So, obviously, different diets have huge differences in terms of their impact on the climate change. Objectively, the vegetarianism produces 10 times less impact on the planet, than an average balanced diet.

IS THE MEAT BAD FOR THE PLANET?

But the idea of this search is not to make us immediately stop consuming meat, but to make understand that the diversification of the sources of protein in our food could help a better protection of the planet.

  • Indeed, it seems that the ruminants are the big polluters due to their specific digestive system including at the final stage the emission of the specific methane gas which contributes in a big proportion to the greenhouse effect.
  • The ruminants are big consumers of water and vegetables.

The fact that makes me feel guilty, as I visited the areas in the world where the water is precious: 1 kg of meat = 15 000 liters of water + 7 kg of cereals.

HOW MUCH IS THE FISH?

To resume, the intensive aquaculture should be replaced:

  • by the sustainable way of production;

  • with the insects and the vegetables (soy, algae) instead of flours.

ENTOMOPHAGY… WHAT ELSE?
You have certainly heard about the alternative ingredient which are the INSECTS.

The diet consisting of consumption of insects (grilo-protein) instead of meat, is called entomophagy.

Talking about the insects, for the same quantity of proteins, they request

  • 6 times less of food than the bovines;
  • 4 times less of food than the muttons;
  • 2 times less of food than the pigs and the chickens!

WHAT ABOUT FRUITS AND VEGETABLES?!

3 things to know, they should be, ideally,

  • organic;
  • locally produced;
  • consumed during their natural season of growing.

The consumption of pesticides is in the origin of a huge pollution, so, we have to reduce it for a better environment.

CONCLUSION

In order to prepare our stomachs to the climate changes, we should diversify our sources of proteins and privilege the local, organic season fruits and vegetables.

Personally, I can go on without a steak, although I highly appreciate it from time to time. Still, I have not tried the vegetable ones. It is on my to do list.

Locavore eating, I tried it and stongly recommend it, the taste is completely different and the price is often worthy or as high as for the transported from another place/imported food.

The insects… Interesting thing, I am ready to try it, for fun, but, sorry, Guys, not a big entomophage. I know some chiefs who are already exploring this market share, and it seems to be quite a popular trend in vogue. To be followed.

To start with, let’s do our best for the planet, eating well and enjoying the food, as one of the most important objectives in all this is about reducing the food wastage.

AND YOU, ARE YOU READY..?

Thanks for your feedbacks and enjoy your weekend!

Hmmm, what will I eat in my 60es?

Hi, @Bronevik,
Thank you for your feedback, a very good, rhetoric question, I believe: to eat or not to eat...
As for me, when I finished this post, I could not find the answer to how I would manage my diet by the mentioned time, but suddenly I have had a big envy to go fishing ;)
I love fishing with the fishing rod, and what about you? Enjoy your evening!
