Healthy food? Take a look
We have to admit that, when we’re trying to eat healthy food, supermarkets can be pretty confusing.
The secret lays in simplicity. The simpler food is, the higher are the chances for it to be healthy.
These are 8 foods that we believe are healthy but are actually not.
Sports drinks and enrichened water
It’s easy to believe that drinks for athletes are healthy, especially because a lot of people are promoting them.
Unless you’re an athlete, there’s no reason to drink them. That’s also the case with water with vitamins and minerals, because they have artificial flavors and sweeteners.
Mixed dried fruits
Dried fruits are an easy way to recharge your batteries between work, exercising and studying.
However, most of the mixes that we can find in supermarkets have a lot of ingredients that aren’t entirely healthy.
Vegetable chips
The vegetables from these chips are so processed that most of the nutrients that we usually find in vegetables are gone.
Nutritional bars
Some nutritional bars have so much sugar that you could eat an entire chocolate instead and there wouldn’t be any difference.
For example, in a study from 2013, the nutritional bar that was the most sold had 230 calories, 10 grams of sugar and 160 mg of sodium.
A Snickers bar has 250 calories, 27 grams of sugar and 120 mg of sodium.
Aromatic oat
The classic breakfast, cereal, is a sugar trap. That’s also the case with aromatic oat. Although it has whole grains, aromatic oat has big quantities of sugar and salt.
Smoothies
What can be healthier than a smoothie with fresh fruits? Well, the fruit itself.
A smoothie once in a while is fine, but you’re eliminating the fibers from the fruits and you’re adding too much sugar.
“Low fat” or “no fat” products
Eating something that is low in fat in a natural way, like apples, is okay, but buying something because the tag says “no fat” is a bad idea 90% of the times.
That’s because the fat is replaced with much worse things, such as salt and sugar.
Gluten free products
There’s no reason to avoid this protein, unless you have a medical problem that doesn’t allow you to eat gluten.
When gluten is eliminated from foods, usually vitamin B, minerals and fibers are also eliminated.
I'll have a beer while my wimpy hangers-on have their $15 smoothies!
