Ancient Grain Bread is Gluten & Glyphosate-Free!

in #food5 years ago (edited)

The Little Northern Bakehouse has the best line of vegan, gluten-free bread available! Although not organic, it is certified Non-GMO and glyphosate free! It contains minimal sweetner and oil, plus ingredients like teff, millet, spelt tapioca, and quinoa. It's how ancient grain bread was supposed to be made.

They come in many varities. Costco now carries in the fresh NOT frozen secion 2 packs of their Whole Grain Wide Slice Loaf and their Seeds and Grains. I've also tried the Millet and Chia kind from SaveOn. It was alright - like a white bread but didn't toast well.

The Seeds and Grains is better but small. The Whole Grain Wide Slice tastes like a classic whole wheat bread and the slices are actually as wide as the toaster slots! It's the first enjoyable AND properly sized loaf of VGF bread I've had.

It looks very good.

wondering how to infuse it...

I must admit that bread is a MUST in life!

Hell yeah! No-carb is so annoying. More annoying than being made fun of for eating gluten-free. It's gluten and glyphosate that are bad. Yes, both, not just glyphosate. :)

Oh nice I have to look for that next time I'm there. I am mostly gluten free. And love whole grains.
Thanks

Yeah it's great bread even it you're not gluten free. It's good for vegans, or people like me who consider glyphosate one of the biggest reasons to go organic. It's low "crap", for example it's not loaded with low quality oil or excess sugar. I looked up other ancient grain bread and it's predominantly wheat anyway plus low quality oil. I remember in the 90s/2000s ancient grain products were all the rage, but who knew the best ones would be yet to come after the fad died down.

Mostly-gluten-free is a little bit better than a diet with gluten.
But to actually see the benefits, go that little bit further and cut the last of it out. If you're at all sensitive to it, your body is sending immune system attacks at anything which looks like gluten. That includes parts of your own body, like your thyroid, which means you could be having thyroid symptoms or other autoimmune illness. To shut that down immediately, cut out the last of the gluten, and that immune reaction will stop too, along with the inflammation and other problems it comes with.
It's just so hard, because for some stupid reason, they add white flour to just about EVERY processed food. Even when there's no need for it!
(Same problem vegans like myself have with milk products. They add milk - a mammal blood product - to almost everything. Even things you would assume are vegan, like vegetable soup, or canned beans, often has milk or animal fat added.)
This bread is a life-saver for gluten-free vegans like @MediKatie and I! Not frozen, and delicious, but totally shame-free. Finally!!

Well, the ingredients aren't very encouraging:
Water, gluten free flour blend (modified tapioca starch, potato starch), whole grain blend (whole brown rice flour, whole teff flour, whole millet, whole red quinoa), sugars (raisin juice, dextrose, cane sugar), sunflower oil, psyllium husk, yeast, modified cellulose, pea fibre, salt, rice bran, cultured cane sugar, vinegar, cellulose gum.

I bake something similar, a coupe ingredients aren't needed, like a bunch of sugars.
