Usï and Owòo

If you are from Delta State Nigeria, you wont be a stranger to this meal. This is one of the best meals of the Deltans. If you saw a Deltans who doesnt know this or eat this, then that person may have not grown in his home town to be treated to the exclusive, one of a kind meal.

The stach (Usi) is made from the extracts of a grinded cassava. The process is simple as after bagging the grinded cassava, you press it to extract the liquid(starch) from it. After it is extracted in a bowl, it is kept to settle down. The part that is settled is what is used to make the Usi. (I will bring you the process of the grinding soon). The process of making the Usi to make it edible is still very simple. What you do is to scoop some starch in a blow, mix with water to form the needed paste-not thick and not too light. Put your frying pan on fire and pour the mix. You then add oil to it and stir with a flat wooden spoon. You stir until it comes together and forms the mass of food that is referred to as the Usi.

The Owoo is also easy to make. Major item needed apart from your fish is garri. When i will confirm how to make it very well before you try it...lolz. But it is a meal you will enjoy. Any soup can be used in eating Usi, it just depends on choice.

I dont want to tell you how i enjoyed the meal and was craving for extra. You can try it out and enjoy it as well. Best bet, if you cannot prepare it, go to a 'Delta' restaurant and you may be lucky to enjoy a treat to this traditional meal.

It is a food affair!
